Hello eveyone and mentors, I am a newbie, have never been exposed to R language and I know basic Python. May I know whether this task is suitable for me ?
Because as of now, everything seems completely alien to me except for the dataset.
hello @trunghieu2506. To begin with, make ample use of the resources (questions, issues and their solutions) on stackoverflow. Almost any issue you may encounter during a task (assuming you are doing a coding task) has a possible workaround or solution. For any issues specific to a task, you can always message the mentor overseeing the task. Since you have a basic understanding of Python, you should try to learn about the basic R syntax since it is somewhat similar to Python.
If there is some general question still, you can always post your doubts here so that we may be able to help you
It seems to require a lot of work over the course of only 3 days ?
Thank you for your advice !
@trunghieu2506 which task are you working on? We can give you some help/tips :)
@vijaybarve are we supposed to submit fix to issue 110 as a PR ?
@/all today is the deadline for all students to claim their tasks if they still want to. This deadline won't be extended by Google, so if you still have any tasks you want and is available, please do so.
Is there any sort of naming convention with regards to the folders in R repositories (I keep seeing folders "R", "man" etc. ) ?
Is there any kind of plot in R which allows to compare three variables with one another. (vertices and edges of a graph with time)
Since GCI 19 - 2020 has officially come to an end today, I would like to thank all my @mentors for guiding me throughout my journey and making me fall in love with learning in every bit of it.. I would also like to thank my fellow mates for being a part of the journey with me, thank you everyone for your time and consideration....😊The journey is never ending. There's always gonna be growth, improvement, adversity; you just gotta take it all in and do what's right, continue to grow, continue to live in the moment.
Thank you so much ❤️😊😊
I'll just echo what @Rishi0812 said and say that I've really enjoyed the experience! Learning R as a new language has been really nice, and I've even been offered a summer internship as a result of one of the tasks I did. I'm happy regardless of the outcome, thanks to all of the R staff and mentors.
Even six months ago , I would have been utterly confused if I heard about competitions like Google Code-in. While I did know what open source was, the idea that thousands of high school students such as I would be able to contribute towards it in meaningful ways would have absolutely blown my mind. These two months have not only been a formal introduction for me towards open source but have also been a period of learning thanks to the mentors who took time out of their busy schedules (thanks @jcrodriguez1989@vivekktiwari@benubah@vijaybarve@sunn-e@tdhock ) and the fellow students (Thanks @oliverfogelin@Rishi0812@Pilipino@Azamlynny@programming-wizard ) who suggested various workarounds and tips with regards to the bugs and the tasks. This was my first encounter not only with R but with any statistical programming language at all and the community helped me immensely. I realize this comment is getting a bit long hence I would like to end it by reiterating my thanks to everyone involved with R in GCI. It is truly the community that is the most exciting part of open source and you guys made me realize it.
No worries @ZeroDawn0D, I'm glad I could help!
As GCI has come to an end 😞, I would like to thank all the mentors as well as the students who helped me in learning this new language R. I enjoyed learning R with you. For me, this was a short introduction to open source which you all made an exciting journey. I am glad to be a part of this community and contribute to R and open source. Once again, Thank You, I learned a lot during these two months.
@ZeroDawn0D I am very happy, I was able to help.

As my first GCI year, it was an amazing experience, I really enjoyed your enthusiasm and your hard work. You are all welcomed to next year's GCI, and if you start your university studies, you are welcomed to GSoC. I'm glad you liked the R, where you come for the language, and stay for its community ;)
Thank you all for such an amazing experience. It was a great. Hope you will continue the learning and contribute more and more in R community.
Thank you everybody @mentors and @co-participants for making my last GCI so special!! 😁
We invite all the Students who has participated in the GCI 2019 contest to a friendly, experience sharing irc channel. So who are interested in talking to fellow org students can join in our channel. Network: irc.freenode.net Channel: ##gci-2019 dont confuse with #gci-2019
