Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
I just got most of it from trying to convert asciidoctorj to gradle
it was a good use case of applying the plugin in a different context
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
ugh too many meetings again, trying to keep up with you is hard!
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
@ysb33r ping
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
I figure it might be easier to discuss some of #43 here instead of in code comments
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
I’m here
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
YO
so can you use any other environment variable other than GEM_HOME?
for example, in a default shell, this is the value of GEM_HOME for me :/ `/home/tyler/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.0@rubygems`
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Sure, but within the gradle script we want to minimise the effect of the environment. That is why in GemUtils we call setEnvironment [:] beofre running gem install.
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
I didn't notice that
I suppose that's fine then?
wait
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
round about line 135
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
JRubyPlugin.groovy L54 in #43, isn't that going to overwrite the existing test task?
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
No, it should not
it is just more configuration on the test
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
I thought the syntax for that was to use project.tasks.test << { }
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
the ‘<< {}‘ syntax is for creating custom tasks
task myTask << { println ‘Hello, world’ }
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
maybe expand on this comment // In order to update the testing cycle we need to tell so I understand wtf is going on there :P
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
OK, coming up :)
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Done. It’s in the PR
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
great, once @buildhive says it's ready to go I'll merge it
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
BTW what’s the difference between GEM_HOME and GEM_PATH?
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
$GEM_HOME is used by rubygems for locating gem code, $GEM_PATH is used like $PATH for locating ruby-based executable files (IIRC)
@headius or one of those guys could probably correct me
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
a ok
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
our build time trend is a little saddening
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
grrr, 24mins are far too long
I’ll do some work on trying to get that down
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
it's not really important
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
it would be nice if it is around 10min
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
@ysb33r I like your idea for the base plugin approach
I'm going to try to beg the @JRuby guys to let us host repositories under their organization
that will make teams so much easier
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
On #26, I have asked another question on the gradle forum. Usually if Luke sees questions from me, he tries to respond. (It helps if you know people)
I would still like to see Rakefile support happen at some stage.
rtyler @rtyler nods
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
I think I've done enough Rake hacking lately to make that happen
in a separate plugin of course :)
I'll create a repository for a jruby-gradle-war-plugin, jruby-gradle-jar-plugin and a jruby-gradle-rake-plugin when i get a chance
@ysb33r what from the jruby-gradle-plugin do you think moves into the jruby-gradle-war-plugin?
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
1 Instead of creating multiple repositories, you could have created a multi-build Gradle instead.
[2] for jrubyWar plugin : move JRubyWar.groovy, JRubyWarSpec.groovy and the section that creates it in JRubyPlugin.groovy
Christian Meier
@mkristian
@ysb33r GEMHOME is where rubygems will install gems. GEM_PATH is where rubygems will look for gems when you require things which are not on the LOAD_PATH yet. once found inside a gem that gem will be added to the LOAD_PATH. I think rubygems also looks in GEM_HOME for not activated gems. GEM_PATH is like PATH a list of PATH entries.
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
@mkristian thanks
Charles Oliver Nutter
@headius
You can put any of the gradle stuff in jruby org
I can make someone admin so that can happen
as long as we're not talking about 100 repos or something
