@catmando small meta-question: how would you feel about moving the project chat to Slack?
there's a wealth of information in here which Gitter unfortunately makes very hard
to search, save for later, link to or cross-reference. as a newbie i'd love to browse some past conversations, search for errors that i may encounter etc. - but the lack of threading alone makes that a frustrating endeavour.
Siksel
@Siksel
++ to that
Mitch VanDuyn
@catmando
I’m good with it. I think @barriehadfield was going to instigate that too
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
Slack +1
@/all does anyone have a good reason to NOT go to Slack?
Donovan Keme
@digitalextremist
Came here to say... Slack ... with love from FaaStRuby
Siksel
@Siksel
Not to mention we could set up different channels for things like first-time-setup, feature requests, direction for the project, etc
moe
@m-o-e
and i could add a +1 emote instead of having to write ++ here :D
(+1 to having channels)
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
@digitalextremist @Siksel @m-o-e - thanks very much, I have been seeing how active your channel is. :thumbsup:
Nick Johnstone
@Widdershin
Reasons against slack: it’s not externally visible, have to sign up to even view chat. Hard to link to messages from the outside as a result.
history rationale only works out if someone will actually pay for it
Additionally they’ve actively discouraged the use of it for oss projects, so who knows if they’ll cut that off entirely in future
Donovan Keme
@digitalextremist
@Widdershin alternative there is https://spectrum.chat/
moe
@m-o-e
valid concerns. agree one of the slack clones might work equally well (discord could be another candidate).
Nick Johnstone
@Widdershin
Yeah I had a look at spectrum chat the other day and it felt a little off
It would be way better IMO if it didn’t contain a crappy twitter clone
Like they’ve completely knocked off the ui
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
We use slack at work, but pay for it - I am trying to figure how the free servicve works. Looks like FaastRuby community is thriving there :-)
moe
@m-o-e
just gave spectrum a quick test-run and have to agree, the UI feels super awkward :(
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
I have setup the slack channel, but cannot find a way people can signup themselves...
moe
@m-o-e
gonna try, sec
moe
@m-o-e
yea that's an invite
actually n/m
your link gave me a signup form!
trying that out
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
yes, I think there are two options - via a link or anyone from a specific email domain
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
@/all there is a Slack channel now - still some setup needed - good to try it out and see how we feel. Please use this link for now: https://join.slack.com/t/hyperstack-org/shared_invite/enQtNTg4NTI5NzQyNTYyLTYzYTZhYTE2MGE5ZTQ0OTAyNDVlMzE5OTk5NWNmZmMzYjhkZGY1MDc3MGFjMGZlYzE5ZWJhZDJiMmQyYzAxMjY
Mitch VanDuyn
@catmando
could we just use reddit ? I never used it before this week, but it seemed pretty good
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
lets try slack, its working very well for the FastRuby community
Reddit is more blog/comments than chat I think
ALSO - there is StackOverflow and Github integration
Mitch VanDuyn
@catmando
gitter or github?
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
Github (sorry - 4am here)
Mitch VanDuyn
@catmando
@/all maybe longer term we should just start evolving our own chat clone, as a demo anyway
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
you certainly don’t lack ambition :-)
Mitch VanDuyn
@catmando
no I don't lack ambition for all of you :-)
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
@/all I have done some setup in Slack, there are a few channels, Github integration (for issues, push, etc) and also a StackOverflow feed for all new SO questions
Please feel feel free to join and let’s see how we like it...
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
So, I put some basic channel structure into the Slack group above. Also checked with the FaastRuby guys and they like using it a lot - lets use it for a few days and see if we want to jump ship
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
OK, enough from me for one day, promise this is my last post. I have added a few redirects to the website (inspired by FaastRuby):
Barrie Hadfield
@barriehadfield
Could not resist; one final redirect:
https://hyperstack.org/questions -> All hyperstack tagged questions
Michail!
@mpantel
Maybe its a good idea to jump over to also align names ruby-hyperloop/chat -> hyperstack-org which my cause some confusion for newcomers...
Michail!
@mpantel
@Siksel I use hyperstack with rails on docker and for my configuration i have set in config/environments/development.rb
 config.action_cable.allowed_request_origins = [
                                                 /https?\:\/\/127\.0\.0\.1\:[0-9]*/,
                                                 /https?\:\/\/localhost\:?[0-9]*/,
                                                 /https?\:\/\/0\.0\.0\.0\:?[0-9]*/,
                                                 /https?\:\/\/172\.18\..*\:?[0-9]*/]

  config.action_cable.url = (RUBY_PLATFORM =~ /darwin/ ? "ws://127.0.0.1:#{ENV['PORT']}/cable" : "wss://replace-with-docker-address/cable")
