Hey everyone, I created this really simple express app generator the generates a basic express app without extra stuff like handlebars and additional modules. I find it useful when I want to spin up a really simple server that does not need any of the additional stuff that comes with express generator. Feel free to use it and contribute if you would like to see any additional features! https://github.com/nischayv/express-gen

Hello @sahat and everyone. I have followed the steps here https://github.com/sahat/hackathon-starter#getting-started but still couldn't get it to work. I have renamed env.example to .env and provided the MONGOLAB_URI
But when I run npm start, it gives me Client requires an Account SID and Auth Token set explicitly or via the TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID and TWILIO_AUTH_TOKEN environment variables
Since the error occurs in node_modules/twilio/lib/Client.js:22, I added console.log(process.env) to where SID and TOKEN were required
But didn't find any of the variables set in .env
Seems like that file doesn't read the .env file
Anyone has an idea how to solve this?
    ok never mind, I just read that I should change dotenv.load({ path: '.env.example' });
hey guys, http://hackathonstarter-sahat.rhcloud.com/ seems to be down
    Kuriakin Zeng
it is down from my side too
btw, does anyone know why the code in js/main.js doesn't get compiled when I run npm start?
it's in the one in public folder. should I run some special command?
    Kuriakin Zeng
    ok got it
    there's cache.

    hello all
    Nuno Ribeiro
Hi. I'm wondering about how to use my own mail server with hackathon starter... is there a way to .env it or must I hack through?
    Arthur Tkachenko
@nmpribeiro I think you cannot do what do you want via .env file. I propose you to create second file at 'config' folder, name it secret(example). On this file you must add nodemail settings in array-like way. You can find more information at nodemail tutorial. as simple example, please open this file and see nodemail options for SendGrid email server: https://github.com/sahat/hackathon-starter/blob/master/controllers/contact.js#L3
You also can get an idea by looking at my project: https://github.com/atherdon/stripe-recurring-membership/blob/easymail/server/config/secrets.js#L23
    Take care

    Ben Halverson
@philipbankier show the code on where you are using node-sass-middleware
    when i run npm install
    i am getting this error
    npm ERR! Darwin 17.3.0
npm ERR! argv "/usr/local/bin/node" "/usr/local/bin/npm" "install"
    npm ERR! node v6.11.3
    npm ERR! npm v5.5.1
okay fixed just reinstall nodejs and npm

Hey guys, i have packaged this hackathon-starter boilerplate (Node.js + MongoDB) running as microservices in the same kubernetes cluster. Check it out here. It wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get this deployed on a cloud server.
Would love your thoughts/feedback on this for improvements.
Hello, have a question please can we use this starter with another database?
    Tobias Lundgren
@micko75 yes you can just modify the server to use another database for your app.

    Hey guys
I'm building a project with your starter for the backend and vue as the frontend . I'm gonna use your starter only for API authentication. For this purpose, will passport.js help me as I'm gonna use multiple role based login?
    Please help
