@bchazalet
is that what you want?

I’m trying to resolve 47deg/sbt-microsites#117, which seems to be triggered by sbt-ghpages using an old version of sbt-git. But the README for sbt-git is confusing, because it implies that there is a newer version than 0.8.5, but then makes it look like 0.8.5 is the current version (and I’m hoping there is a newer version, because 0.8.5 relies on an ancient org.eclipse.jgit, which I think is the root of the problem).

Ok, so it looks like the fix to JGit hasn’t actually been merged yet, so even forcing JGit 4.6.0 didn’t fix it. I’ll come whine about a new release once that’s sorted.

@asyd
Hello folks. I would like to know how to set the version of my docker (version in Docker :=) using git id. Note I'm a scala/sbt n00b, I tried version in Docker := git.baseVersion but off course that doesn't work
Bruno Bonfils
@asyd
I reply to myself: version in Docker := git.gitHeadCommit.value.get

Any ideas on how I can access the sbt git inside a scala class. I want to show the current branch and git tag within my scala program, added sbt-git to plugins.sbt and tried to import but no luck
Andy Petrella
@andypetrella
@getmetorajesh you need a Build Info, I do it in the spark-notebook
Check the repo

@dwijnand thanks for releasing 0.9.0!
Just in case the other maintainers would like to cut a release in the future: how is that done here? Do we have a doc for that?
Dale Wijnand
@dwijnand
So I've never collaborated on releasing an sbt plugin.
I'll ask Eugene how it's done.
so I don't know how you do this with mulitple maintainers releasing..
after updating the build a bit, the steps for releasing are: (1) git tag the repo, (2) run reload (to reset version), (3) run publish
Heiko Seeberger
@hseeberger
I think we can release directly to sbt on bintray. At least I can.
Heiko Seeberger
@hseeberger
Released 0.9.1.
Dale Wijnand
@dwijnand
sweet :)
Heiko Seeberger
@hseeberger
Yeah, glad that the machinery works ;-)
Heiko Seeberger
@hseeberger
Released 0.9.2. Now completely without depending on Log4j 1.
Anusha
@anushaBuzz_twitter
Hey, I'm new to using sbt-git. How I can set the log level? I keep seeing DEBUG messages.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
@anushaBuzz_twitter you probably want to try adding the slf4j no-op as a dependency
see the known issue in the readme file: https://github.com/sbt/sbt-git#known-issues
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
what is the reason that sbt-git as well as many other plugins are deployed to bintray and not maven central?
in my experience bintray is way slower than maven central.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
@leonardehrenfried I honestly don't know. Perhaps it's easier to setup an account on bintray?
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
i'm having a horrible time trying to get sbt-git to build on travis at the moment.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
because of java 8?
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
no, downloads from repo.typesafe.com time out or they simply throw an error.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
that may be related to the previous error you were having on travis then?
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
yes, they are all pretty much the same error. can't download from repo.typesafe.com
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
things like this take a long time:
wget https://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/ivy-releases/org.scala-sbt/compile/0.13.16-M1/jars/compile.jar
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
that's very strange
takes a second on my machine
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
sometimes it's quite fast, sometimes it takes 30s. very weird.
at least i have build now that has downloaded sbt but it's craaawling: https://travis-ci.org/sbt/sbt-git/builds/233559905
resolving and downloading artifacts for 22 minutes now.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
wow
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
i've added caching of the ivy cache to the travis build in order for the cache to work the build has to pass at least one.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
do you believe that's a temporary glitch from travis?
otherwise i would suggest using coursier here
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
i don't really know. at least the latest build has now finished successfully and a cache was build.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
:+1:
I think we should probably release one more version with your PR merged for java 7
and then upgrade to java 8
so that java 7 users can benefit from your PR too
Leonard Ehrenfried
@leonardehrenfried
good idea but how many scala users are still using java 7? it has not received updates for 2 years.
Boris Chazalet
@bchazalet
more than you'd think! :)
anyway it doesn't cost us much to do it that way
