What is the latest story with sbt-native and docker? Is this the only plugin to look at? https://github.com/marcuslonnberg/sbt-docker
Kind of confusing because that plugin depends on sbt-native 0.8; and in 0.8 there is another DockerPlugin.

Sbt native packager and the docker Plugin you mentioned, are two different things
Both provide an autoplugin DockerPlugin, which do similar things.

Right, but the home page of sbt-native seems to promote sbt-docker, no? Why use on over the other?

See an older message her, where I explained the difference. And Marcus plugin doesn't depend on sbt-native-packager AFAIK

if you want to customize a lot, use the docker plugin from marcus
for basic cases, docker plugin from sbt native package is great
my 2 cents :)

Agreed. Sbt-native-packager is easier if you want a running container out of the box.
I mentioned ssbt-docker because IMHO it's a good alternative
