if you want a smaller scope than designing an entirely new piece of creative software, you could make something compatible with existing software. some people use video files for this, or DMX512/Artnet
I wanted this to first be something that could be standalone and not require software to be running on a PC/MAC. Since fadecandy works off of a RPi that seems to be a good choice that should have enough processing power to run the show. I didn't see a way to "import" a picture into fadecandy, add effects, and have that displayed on the matrix. Am I right about that and this is where the extra software would come into play? Creating a video seems like a logical way to run something like this. Just create your show and play the video file in an endless loop and whatever is playing the video is actually outputting to the fadecandy instead of a display
Question: If I want to develop a matrix that doesn’t add up to 64 leds per strip (it uses half), can I map out double the amount of led strips with half the leds on a single fadecandy? (16 strips of 32 leds)
@dsandlerm_twitter -- yes but it might complicate the way you're thinking about this matrix in terms of lines/strips if done on a single fadecandy. you could add a 2nd fadecandy and map each data out of the two fadecandies to exactly one of the 16 strips. if you stick with just one fadecandy, you'd had to get 2 strips/lines of the matrix per one data out. this might make spatially mapping the pixels in your code a bit of a headache but could be done by linking two LED strips/rows at a time via the data wire.
i suggest reading the documentation for the fcserver.json file and look at how the fcserver.json file is configured in some of the examples.... that's kind of the lower-level map of the contiguous pixels and their indices.
if you're using Processing, for example, and the OPC library, you can set the strips/pixels in your code layer to be independent "lines" and non-contiguous, even though the actual hardware thinks they're one long strip

I had wondered out loud in the live channel why there was not a 3v3 led module out in the wild

that’s a 5V chip
the 3.2v is Vf for two of the led chips. data sheet still lists 5V as the supply voltage
i’d be surprised to see 3.3v RGB leds, the Vf is just too close to the supply to leave room for a constant current controller, you probably have close to zero headroom with worst case Vcc and Vf
Did anybody get an answer regarding working fadecandy with Ubuntu?
With ubuntu (18) dont worked, i installed version 16 and worked without problem.

Hello! Im developing an image that divides into 22 strips of 22 leds. The fadecandy server lights up the whole thing, but for some reason when I connect to the OPC it doesn’t.
I copied the same file from the server but it won’t display the whole image
What is the sample that you are openning in OPC? with this example, all LEDs are off? Can you post the configuration of server?
Just curious, has anyone used OpenOCD to program the K20 recently?
I'm normally an STM32 developer, so I'm still getting used to the K20, but it looks like there may be some issue with OpenOCD when the flash is read locked. I see mentions of a patch in the openocd config file, but everything appears to be completely out of date at this point.
