@scanlime
i also still have a minimum streaming setup put together despite the packing
i gotta do some brick and mortar shopping and fix my bike
the house may present some interesting project opportunities
it's a pretty old house, will definitely need wiring work
Rick Altherr
@kc8apf
I've yet to meet a house that didn't need working work
Micah Elizabeth Scott
@scanlime
but wow I'm finally realizing just how much of a drag this rental has been. i haven't really felt like i can invest in making this place home without a sustainable way to pay for this place, and so that's cast a depressing and temporary flavor over everything in Emeryville
hah yeah
one of the houses i looked at was new construction, so that would have been a different experience
this one is from the late 1930z
s
a little smaller in square footage than this place but similar.. and i expect to be able to use the space a lot more effectively
and it'll most importantly mean I can stop panicking about the huge bay area rent here
it wasn't awful when i had a roommate but them leaving earlier this year really made the housing search necessary
Rick Altherr
@kc8apf
New construction just means finding poor work rather than knowing obsolete techniques were used
Still in the bay area?
Completely relate to not investing in an area when housing feels impermanent

@scanlime my partner and I just bought a new house, way out in the middle of nowhere
it's been nice fixing up and tearing down shit
far away from tech land

one of the benefits of older houses is the frame is often made of very good wood - old-growth hardwood that can't be found anymore
ours was built ~1900 and it's like. DANG. you need a hammer drill to drill into it
(not really but)

oh hey, I'm having fun with FPGA/nMigen stuff, but I'm kinda looking for something bigger than the iCEStick, anyone have any suggestions for a ≤$60 board compatible with the open-source toolchain?
Rick Altherr
@kc8apf
Bigger in what way? LUTs?
ECP5 tends to be the next step up. https://radiona.org/ulx3s/ and https://github.com/gregdavill/OrangeCrab are upcoming boards for them.
Goran Mahovlic
@goran-mahovlic
yes, we are trying to lunch ECP5 on Crowd Supply - just working on videos ...
We are also trying to get things easier for end user and there is so much samples to it is not easy
But now we are step closer to that with docker
Jarrett Billingsley
@JarrettBillingsley
thanks @kc8apf
the icebreaker is definitely one I've been keeping my eye on....
idk if I need something like an ECP5 at this stage, but the 1280 cells on the HX1K are a bit limiting
orangecrab looks delightful...
haven't seen any news on the TinyFPGA EX in a while :(
@goran-mahovlic what's your project called?

are the pears... eatable
pospeselr
@pospeselr
anything's eatable with enough work
but are the edible ? :3

A friend pinged me asking about the streaming setup that @scanlime uses. I remember a stream from the dim and distant past talking about the whole setup but my search-fu is failing me. Anyone happen to remember what video that was? I think it was mid-Tuco Flyer build timeframe but the interest is more about the whole multi-machine, multi-video input, multi-cast streaming setup. (As opposed to the incredible cat camera bot side :) )
