I would even dare to say it behaves very similarly, if not the same, to the "stickyYArcball" of mine... for example, both have a roll (the floor rolls in the background) when the view (line of sight) is not perfectly perpendicular to the world's y-axis (that is, you look more "from the above")... the more the difference, the stronger the roll
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
the stickyYarcball is lightweight, you can test it:
(and change the behaviour in runtime with ctrl shift a y)
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
PS: we don't need cam to move forward (kindly ask for pulling, no push!) with PR #273, I believe
as for the cam, I have two solutions at hand:
  • the scene roll ('R' key for example) - this extra control circumvents the problem I found on my data with the original Arcball (this is I think part of #273)
  • the stickyYarcball that one can enable/disable if he/she feels like in runtime (this is two commits, see above, that we can add anytime later, or never...;-)
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@xulman ignore RollingBallCameraControl, that was just for testing, the actual stuff is in ArcballCameraControl
have you had a look at that as well?
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
I did, didnot notice any (significant) change.. thus deemed that Roll.. is the one
I'll check again
(just 5 min... in the middle of something)
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
(me back), so the main change in the proposed Arcball is that you normalize?
was running it once again, I think it is the same as always was, ne?
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@xulman yes, the normalisation is quite important though because it prevents roll
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@xulman is there a chance we can have a quick zoom chat tomorrow about your arcball issues?
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@/all in case anyone is interested in (virtually) attending any of the upcoming rendering conferences, here's a nice list: http://www.realtimerendering.com/blog/cancel-your-siggraph-hotel-attend-egsr-hpg-and-i3d-2020-virtually-free/ brought to you by eric haines

@xulman
@skalarproduktraum sure, I'm online today (sorry for my silence yday), well, 1pm-ish 2-3ish pm I have must deal with some private stuff, but otherwise I could do it
I could use some small time since now to get my brain back on this: I lost track of my PRs and replies to it, would like to setup fresh scenery+sciview on recent masters etc.
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
@skalarproduktraum I've rebased (and resolved conflicts) all my recent stuff on the today morning's masters of both sciview and scenery,
wanted to tested it out, but fighting Kotlin... on my old 2019.1 IntelliJ I couldn't get over 1.4-M2, so I downgraded the requirement in pom.xml (M3->M2).. but it kept complaining (cannot find some kotlin class), so I got fresh 2020.2, enabled Kotlin, cleared target, .idea folders and also .iml file, importer brand fresh project from existing sources... and I'm stuck here:
VladoIsLost.png
(this was from the fresh project with scenery only, scenery was on master b1320fbee6)
(I have to switch to stuff I needed to do today, next full week I'm on vacations)
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@xulman this one also held me up a bit... make sure you don't have any other projects there that depend on -M2 or so
I have actually bumped Kotlin to 1.4.0 now
1.4.0-rc that is
Ah crap wait, that's not on master
sorry
pushed to master
also, @xulman, would you be able to have a short zoom at 1430 or sth?
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
(just got back) I'll try it, I'd like to catch up... difficult, have to "collect kids", drive for daughter in 10mins, ETA at the computer 15:45, for son I have to leave 5pm and will get back before midnight (have to drive to far for him to pick him up from summer camp). Would tomorrow morning be possible for you? I also have to finish tonight some mini-project proposal... incremental request are the worsts for planning, you know.
I mean, I learnt about that mini-project just yday (overlooked some email, ach jo)
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@xulman sounds tough! tomorrow is bad for me, but if you could squeeze me in for 5min today, i'd just like to understand your arcball issues better :+1:
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
yes, girl is home, project submitted, I'm on it... we have 50mins... I apologize for such terrible attitude
hmm
Cannot resolve plugin com.zenjava:javafx-maven-plugin:8.8.3

Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
yes, you can ignore that
do you have time for a quick zoom?
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
yes
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
nice

@xulman

good!
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
thanks @skalarproduktraum for the quick chat we had yday, I've rebased my stuff into the new scenerygraphics/scenery#329 and scenerygraphics/sciview#279

@NicoKiaru
Hi! Any news regarding being able to give a SourceAndConverterand an associated ConverterSetup to SciView ?
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@NicoKiaru handing over a SourceAndConverter is implemented in both scenery and sciview, sorry for not giving you a heads-up (see https://github.com/scenerygraphics/sciview/blob/170c36cd9b6a332b353ada01be09de5e4575d2a7/src/main/java/sc/iview/SciView.java#L1838 and https://github.com/scenerygraphics/scenery/blob/e1ca3f939c31ac01e05a45cbc8b5c11a6ff9ba32/src/main/kotlin/graphics/scenery/volumes/Volume.kt#L331) -- should be avaialble at least on the unstable update site (correct me here, if i am wrong, @kephale!). do you require anything else?
NicoKiaru
@NicoKiaru
Yes! I tried with SourceAndConverter and that worked, but the ConverterSetupobject - which controls Brightness / Contrast and (optionally the Color) of the SourceAndConvertercouldn't be fed into SciView so far.
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
ah, now i actually remember our discussion, sorry >_<
let me see if i can fix this quickly
