IDEA for the FPS cam control: I would block the pitch to be only within <-90;90> deg... you can look 360 to the sides (yaw), but only 180 up-down -- this would not allow to see the scene up-side-down
(when up-side-down, the FPS reacts the opposite to the "horizontal" mouse moves)

I've resolved them locally, shall I start a new PR that would merge easily (the rebased one)

You can force-push your locally rebased branch to xulman:PR_UXchanges_takeTwo and the PR will be updated accordingly. That’s how we do it for projects in the scijava and imagej orgs usually.

Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
aha! thanks @imagejan for the note... I'll do that then, easy
(I always thought force-push is a kind of evil,.... so I do it only in my one-contributor projects after rebase-cleanup :-)

@tpietzsch
@skalarproduktraum Not sure if it's relevant for scenery, but I've had some crashes with JOGL today and could fix it using the 2.4.0-rc-20200307 release candidate (not on maven yet unfortunately)
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
@tpietzsch thanks for the heads-up, i'll check it out!

@skalarproduktraum
lol
on a positive note, i have found the swimming bug!
@kephale you might wanna pull the vulkan-sync-fix branch, maybe this also helps with the recent performance issue you've had
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
oh cool
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
still need to clean this up, but it'd be great if you can confirm or deny :-D
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
@xulman i'm in Berlin now, and have much more opportunity to spend time on sciview. do you want to resync with @skalarproduktraum and I?
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
@kephale welcome in Europe!
yes, I'd like to, eventually... I could use to agree on an action plan so that I know what to fix and where, plus I have some more ideas I would like to discuss first before spending time on them
would second half of this week be good? @skalarproduktraum
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
@xulman ya, thursday would be particularly good
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
great, for me as well ;-)
I have only a dentists appointment with kid on that day, problem is I forgot the time, I'm on it... otherwise the day is open for a chat
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
ok great, we'll set a time when you know the time and @skalarproduktraum emerges from his cave
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
:-)
ok
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
lol
he has emerged!
how about 2pm thursday?
in in case anyone is interested in fusing AI and simulations, check out the our annual workshop: https://www.casus.science/news-events/events/casus-annual-workshop/
registration is required, but free, starts today at 5pm, see page for program
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
interesting timing for that schedule
i guess trying to make it accessible to US folk?
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
feels like
I also appreciate it does not eat the whole day, only 2hrs per day
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
agreed
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
micha wanted to leave room for discussions, etc
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
I've registered for the event, thanks Ulrik for the ad
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
:+1:
thought this might be right in your ballpark
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
regarding the Thu, preliminary at 2p.m. -- although I'm still waiting to hear from the dentist
@kephale, would you make it on 2p.m. as well?
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
2pm would work for me
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
related to the CASUS workshop, a call for a special issue on image-based modeling and visualization is in prep, will post here when it becomes official
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
special issue? to what journal? or, I better wait for the official call.. just couldn't resist my curiosity :-)
btw, thanks for confirming the Thu 2pm (I'm still w/o reply from the dentists......)

Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
ooh, good, thank you very much for the info
(I'm gonna miss the ISBI 2021 deadline in 5 days if no d.ext., but this would be anyway much better target)
Vladimír Ulman
@xulman
good, dentists is at 15:40, 2p.m. for the meeting start then, thank you guys!
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale

@axtimwalde
ISBI deadlines will always be extended
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
i'd like to opt scenery and sciview in for hacktoberfest, any opinions against that?
Kyle I S Harrington
@kephale
sounds good
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
question regarding PhantomReferences to @/all : i am trying to introduce a PhantomReference-based cache system for textures in scenery, such that i do not need to reallocate texture if not necessary, and can free resource on the GPU if the texture is not used anymore. the pr is there: scenerygraphics/scenery#335, if anyone is able to give some feedback about the technical correctness of that, i'd be very grateful for that
tpietzsch
@tpietzsch
You should just use imglib2-cache ...
Ulrik Günther
@skalarproduktraum
maybe i did not understand imglib2-cache correctly, but how does that solve the issue of being able to free up gpu resources when needed?
i'm happy to refactor my code to use that if it help with that
