nagios_contactgroup 'admins' do
  options 'alias'   => 'Nagios Administrators',
          'members' => nagios_users.return_user_contacts
end
@sbotman I would like put everything into data bags, form the git pages I found that we can specify members by name, but what should I put into data bag in members if I want to encounter all users?
also we have templates in data bag for services, hosts can I follow same way and create template for users data bag?
Sander Botman
@sbotman
Yes, you should be able to create nagios_users databag with users
Ilja Krauchanka
@ikrauchanka
templates, I need to create user template and then include it in every user data bag file https://github.com/schubergphilis/nagios/wiki/templates
Sander Botman
@sbotman
Hmmm. no, that will not work
I cannot remember me writing that also for users.
Ironpillow
@ironpillow
hi all, i recently came across nagios plugins. I am little confused on how to compile just one plugin check_dhcp and run the binary on mac os x. I do not have nagios core. can just compile the plugin? thanks!
Ilja Krauchanka
@ikrauchanka
@ironpillow tell us what problem you're trying to solve?

hello everyone
i want to check my supervisor status on my nagios
Krishna Singh Rajput
@kk0608krishna_twitter
how can i do that please help me out.
Sander Botman
@sbotman
Hmmm
Hello Krishna
Maybe I can help..
Sander Botman
@sbotman
What is the problem that you are facing? Do you have some check_script for supervisor?
Krishna Singh Rajput
@kk0608krishna_twitter
Hello @sbotman thanks for replying.. I have already written a check_script which i got from a gist. The issue , it is asking for a plugin but i have already installed all the required plugin. I am following
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-nagios-4-and-monitor-your-servers-on-ubuntu-14-04
tutorial
Sander Botman
@sbotman
@kk0608krishna_twitter the installation that you are following is the manual installation of nagios. The chat room here is focused on the chef cookbook that installs nagios (and does the configuration for you)
But I will try to help you out here.... If you have the check script on the box, you will need to edit the /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/commands.cfg file and add something like:
Sander Botman
@sbotman
define command{
        command_name check_supervisor
        command_line /path/to/check/check_supervisord.py -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -P $ARG1$ -u $ARG2$ -p $ARG3$ -a $ARG4$
}
then, according to the documentation that you link here above, you will need to make: /usr/local/nagios/etc/servers/yourhost.cfg
and replace the yourhost.cfg with the name of your server.cfg and add:
define host {
        use                             linux-server
        host_name                       yourhost
        alias                           My first Apache server
        address                         10.132.234.52
        max_check_attempts              5
        check_period                    24x7
        notification_interval           30
        notification_period             24x7
}
Sander Botman
@sbotman
and add the service for supervisor:
define service {
  use generic-service
  host_name yourhost
  service_description Glassfish
  check_command check_supervisord!9001!superv!superv!glassfish
}

is nagios helpful to monitor server
?
Pablo Estigarribia
@pablodav

Hello,

I want to share my ansible roles: https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/

Those still need automated tests and some minor changes to work with fedora/centos/redhat, but most of the parts are done and working properly on our infra on production and testing environments for more than 2 years now.

https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/ansible-role-nagios
https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/ansible_nagios4_server_thruk
https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/ansible_nagios4_server_pnp4nagios
https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/ansible_nagios4_server_config
https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/ansible_nagios4_server_plugins
https://github.com/CoffeeITWorks/ansible_nagios4_server_snmptrap

I will be working on enhancements and minor changes for those this year to help other use it, so every new issue and pull request is welcome.

The snmptrap role is something that I haven't found around internet, so could be interesting for some others.

The idea is to automate and have more collaborative and simple way to manage all nagios customizations.

Suleyman Kutlu
@snkutlu
@shyamhd Can you explain more about your question? Nagios is mainly for server and service monitoring..
shyamhd
@shyamhd
@snkutly i am new in nagios
so, i have just implemented before few days
but while monitoring the websites i am not getting precise output
Suleyman Kutlu
@snkutlu
OK.. Good that you started with it :) So doyou encounter any issues? Anything you want to achieve but could not managed to do?
can you share an example: The service command you executed, the output you expected and the output you got
shyamhd
@shyamhd
I was monitoring a website but when stop the website the message shows success
and once i start website, message shows that bad request
i dont know what is the problem in nagios configuration
Suleyman Kutlu
@snkutlu
can you share some details as I mentioned above please?
shyamhd
@shyamhd
can you share your experience regarding nagios
what are the befenits and why to use it
Suleyman Kutlu
@snkutlu
we heavily use Nagios in our environment and we are one of the maintainers of this cookbook. So we have excellent experience with it.
shyamhd
@shyamhd
great

Hi @snkutlu
I have a query. I have started monitoring SQL Server for that I have configured appropriate settings in Nagios. But I am gettings error of check_icmp: Failed to resolve <mysqlservername>
Suleyman Kutlu
@snkutlu
@shyamhd Nagios server itself should resolve your mysqlserver’s hostname from shell or you can code its ip in host configuration. If needed I can send a sample for you.
mygithubwork
@mygithubwork
Hi all.. like to check with you.. is there community edition available for nagios?
Suleyman Kutlu
@snkutlu
@mygithubwork sorry for late response. What do you mean by "community eddition"? Nagios code itself or nagios cookbook ? This is the repository for Chef cookbook to setup Nagios server, with a community edition version of Nagios
