    Hey guys! Dan here. Has anyone installed SimPEG on windows, or is it mainly Linux users here? I'm trying to install on windows but am having some issues with c++ dependencies.
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Rowan Cockett, SimPEG] @seogi do you have some experience here?
    [Brendan Smithyman, SimPEG] I tried at one point and there were some issues, but I haven’t taken the time.
    [Brendan Smithyman, SimPEG] I think you need to install a visual studio support library; have a search for the Software Carpentry documentation on getting that working in Windows.
    [Rowan Cockett, SimPEG] Dan, are you using Anaconda?
    [Rowan Cockett, SimPEG] https://www.continuum.io/downloads
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    Yeah I'm on the 32 bit anaconda, V2.7

    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] It's been a while, but I did not have problems using SimPEG in windows except for solvers
    [slackbot, SimPEG] SimPEG!!!
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Hi Dan:0

    Hi Seogi!
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Are you installing simpeg through pip?
    [slackbot, SimPEG] SimPEG!!!
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    I tried installing from source too. Had some success, was able to actually install it, but it was pretty slow, some different error messages. I'll try to screenshot
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] I see.

    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Let me know ... if it really does not work I can try remote desktop.
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    Thanks! It's an issue with Visual C++ 9.0, I'm gonna try to uninstall/reinstall visual studio and see if it helps
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Sounds good!
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    Which version of windows visual studio should I get? 2008, or 2015?
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Hi dan, not sure that you need visual studio
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Coud you show me errors that you have got?
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod

    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] It seems Visual C++ 9.0
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] I am trying on my window machine
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] 64 bits. I'll let you know if this works
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Hi Dan,
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Is that when you run "python setup.py build_ext --inplace"?
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Or.. you are simply failing import SimPEG?
    [slackbot, SimPEG] SimPEG!!!
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    I get this error message whether I try to run "python setup.py" or when I try to install from pip. It says "failed building wheel for SimPEG" which in turn fails the installation
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Got it. It seems I am having similar error.
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] But this is just for interpolation, and some utilities in SimPEG
    [slackbot, SimPEG] SimPEG!!!
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Anyway, have you tried import SimPEG
    [slackbot, SimPEG] SimPEG!!!
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] in ipython?
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    Haven't yet!
    Rowan Cockett
    @rowanc1
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] Oh then, you should do that first.
    [Seogi Kang, SimPEG] It may tell you a warning, but okay to use
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    I'll try opening ipython, would I simply type import SimPEG?
    Daniel Kent-O'Donnell
    @dakentod
    I got SimPEG to install, just from pip in the visual C++ CMD window. Needed Visual Studio 2008, Windows SDK v7.0, and the architecture for Anaconda needed to match that of Visual Studio. (I needed both to be 32-bit).
    Next time I'll just boot up Ubuntu and save myself the troubleshooting haha
