@sjamesr
I just did journalctl -f
ok looks good
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
yeah, did -f too
James Ring
@sjamesr
I wonder why saned wouldn't list those scanners
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
they are on the network, not on local usb
James Ring
@sjamesr
my understanding of saned was that it should expose any scanners it can find to the network
but that understanding might be faulty :)
what is the contents of your /etc/sane.d/net.conf file?
mine includes the following lines:
## saned hosts
# Each line names a host to attach to.
# If you list "localhost" then your backends can be accessed either
# directly or through the net backend. Going through the net backend
# may be necessary to access devices that need special privileges.
localhost
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
changed it, mine was commented out, but did not work
James Ring
@sjamesr
did you restart saned?
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
did: sudo systemctl restart saned.socket
James Ring
@sjamesr
that should have done the trick...
James Ring
@sjamesr
I tried to get my own sane daemon not to share scanners
e.g. by commenting out that localhost line
but I couldn't figure it out
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
thanks :)
James Ring
@sjamesr
if you're willing to give it a go, I wrote a command-line jfreesane frontend for testing
git clone git@github.com:sjamesr/jscanimage
cd jscanimage && ./gradlew installdist
then you can connect to your server:
./build/install/jscanimage/bin/jscanimage -s localhost
it should give you a shell, you can type ls
it will probably show no scanners
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
localhost> ls
Getting device list...
No devices found.
It's something on saned
James Ring
@sjamesr
ok, try this:
open test
scan
that should open the testing device that sane has but doesn't advertise
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
Connecting to localhost...
Connected.
localhost> open test
Opening [test]...
Opened.
localhost:test> scan
Acquiring 26,61% done
Done!
James Ring
@sjamesr
ok so jfreesane can acquire images from saned
I'm at a loss as to why saned isn't sharing those scanners
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
will try on askubuntu
James Ring
@sjamesr
I wish I could be more help
I honestly don't have much experience with saned beyond my own setup at home, which Just Works (tm)
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
I appreciate, thanks
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
Anyone knows how to scale a 300dpi image to put in a PDF using itext?
James Ring
@sjamesr
@tsayao can you use Java's builtin ImageIO?
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
I just lowered the scan DPI
I'm still stuck on saned not listing network devices
looking at it, it should list
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
@sjamesr Did you ever make saned list network scanners?
James Ring
@sjamesr
@tsayao it works for me, did you get any answers on askubuntu?
$ ./build/install/jscanimage/bin/jscanimage -s 192.168.1.100
Connecting to 192.168.1.100...
Connected.
192.168.1.100> ls
Getting device list...
brother4:net1;dev0 (Brother office-scanner MFC-9340CDW)
End of device list.
Thiago Milczarek Sayao
@tsayao
did get an reply on the mailing list, it does not list devices on the network
checked on the source code
