Hi Guys n gals: anyone acquinted with the license stuff in snipe?
Is there a way to create a software package which has more than 1 license in it?
or do i need to create every software package with different license info...
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
@bruneeto can you explain what you mean by software package? Like Adobe where it's part of Creative Suite but there's a differeent key for Acrobat vs Photoshop, or do you mean you have 20 unique Camtasia keys you want to be grouped together?
I'm guessing that only @snipe may know this, but I could be wrong: Does the Snipe docker container run anything as root? I'm looking at moving our docker instance to openshift, but I know it starts screaming about things, and I wanted to rule that out as I was getting started and saw some errors.
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
@bruneeto I guess it doesn't really matter either way. The license field allows you to enter newline characters. So you can stack 20 licenses in a single entry. What it doesn't do at that point is keep track of what comptuers are assigned what license. You can alter the keys to be <LIC-KEY-HERE> - ComputerName but that won't allow you to share license 2 with person 2 in a way that they can't see licenses 3-20. It's a moot point if end users can't access snipe-it, but perhaps a dealbreaker if not. If it's the first case where it's a group of software that all goes together with multiple keys, you can absolutely do that. You'll just need to indicate what programs the keys are for in the Product Key or Notes fields.

Hi Snipe-IT Experts! I have Snipe-IT running on a local server in a Windows Server 2016, IIS 10. I'm having an issue where random pages at random intervals take 30-40 seconds to load. Most of the time, things load very fast. I'm not very familiar with IIS or web pages. I'm a sysadmin, not a webdev. Could yall please point me in the direction of some things to check or how to troubleshoot this?
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
@awinterton I'm super biased, because I hate IIS, so please take everything I say with that large grain of salt.
You can check windows logs for errors and there's also other IIS logs in the share path iirc.
That being said, is there anything holding you back from deploying this in linux instead of Windows?
Linux/Docker can be a big learning curve that's less frustrating than dealing with IIS. Mostly because I hate it. I'm sure there are lots of others with the complete opposite opinion of me, but I still think it's garbage.
Who knows maybe my inflamitory comments will pull them out of the woodwork and they'll help you.
fwarde
@fwarde
does SnipeIT support multiple LDAP-sources? I have an environment where we have multiple domains/forests and would like to use 1 instance if possible to support them all...
awinterton
@awinterton
@ParadoxGuitarist Thanks for the input. Anyone who criticizes a bias fails to realize that they themselves are biased. I appreciate input from anyone. I work in a large university environment and all my servers are windows based. I simply added snipe-it to an existing web server I already had. Other IT guys in other departments have linux, but its not something I'm familiar with or have direct access too. Also, linux/docker is foreign to me, so the learning curve is a hurdle. I'll start digging through logs and see if anything stands out.

If you get stuck I'm happy to help you with the docker and linux stuff if you want to give it a go. =)

I think I found the answer to my own question from line 85 on the dockerfile: USER root
bruneeto
@bruneeto
@ParadoxGuitarist thanks for the quick reply, I was thinking more of sketchup. Every key is a multiple line which needs to be copy pasted. So in the current snipe instance, I'd have to create a new sketchup sw for every key and assign it to a single seat and then assign that seat to the user.
Thanks for thinking with me tho :-)
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
That's right.
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
I don't remember if there's an API endpoint for licenses, but you may be able to create them really quickly if it does
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
I'm very close to getting the docker image to run not as root, but a2dismod seems to need root, which is part of the startup script. Any thoughts on enabling a user to run those successfully as a normal user?
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
So I ended up getting the container to run as provided on OpenShift, but I can't seem to get it to route the http traffic properly. I'm guessing no one else is running their instances in openshift?
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
ah, nevermind I got it working. =)

Can you tie location to a company so that it's filtered like assets?
Relix360
@Relix360
has anyone be able to change the map api request from static to one that you are able to zoom in and the exact location is marked?
Relix360
@Relix360
Already solve it, using this code in place of the original google map api code you will get a better map
@if (($supplier->state!='') && ($supplier->country!='') && (config('services.google.maps_api_key')))
<div class="col-md-12 text-center" style="padding-bottom: 20px;">
<iframe width="450" height="450" frameborder="0" style="border:0" src="
https://www.google.com/maps/embed/v1/place?q={{ urlencode($supplier->address.','.$supplier->city.' '.$supplier->state.' '.$supplier->country.' '.$supplier->zip) }}&maptype=roadmap&key={{ config('services.google.maps_api_key') }}""></iframe>
</div>
@endif

that would be the result

Does anyone know off the top of their head where I can configure expiration of forms? Ours are timing out after 30 seconds and some of them take longer than that to fill in.

@curtner04
Good morning. We just rolled out Snipe-IT and I'm still trying to learn how we can best utilize it for our environment. Is there a way I can pull in the department and manager from AD using the LDAP sync? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
akirkpatrick15
@akirkpatrick15
Hello I am looking to find out how in import 5000 assets to Snipe and what all information has to be on the import list
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
@akirkpatrick15 I think you can check the required fields for creating assets on the API documentation for that.
I think it's asset_tag status and model
@curtner04 You can use the API to update that info, but the LDAP sync alone won't do it.
Brian Monroe
@ParadoxGuitarist
Because it's looking for department_id you're going to have to map those values in a config, as there's no endpoint for them on the API.
Also you'll have to create the departments manually.
manager_id is just the user ID number inside snipe, so you can pull those up with the API.
