yeah i have a pdf somewhere but i kinda like the dead tree version of that kind of thing
A large screen that one can turn veritcally helps a lot in sparing trees. I read nearly everything that way.
i have been considering getting a full-page e-ink tablet
There is also a lot of interesting work on databases in category theory that is also very helpful for when thinking about linked-data. (And I think that it can't be long before this is tied into RDF too).
yeah just don't say the word "morphism" in front of a client
yeah, I suppose it depends a lot on what client. :-)
yeah it informed my thinking of bolting RDF to REST a few years back
hypermedia as the engine of the worst acronym in the world and all that
That is not in the spirit of decentralization, is it? I mean, if google can’t crawl these servers, how can they be tested?
At present time, unless robots.txt is saying detach me for all data, solid is a silo and not decentralization
Hi @mikeadams1 i'm no expert in seo but couldn't you just submit single pages and use google site maps?
I mean as follows: IF I do work (be it coding, be it physical) I try to do it proper. cu at 10 eastern in the auth panel. I find it amazing I got the TLS-Login finally functional.........
@Julian-Cole Why does there always have to be an alternative? https://inrupt.net is not private, so why would solid.community or solid.authing.cn be private unless, there is some data there that, they do not want showing up in search. That to me is censorship. We should not be saying to the world that only certain variables of data are acceptable to store, and in an effort to keep out certain data from being queried, we are going to tell search bots to stay out. Is this a web decentralization project or, should it be renamed Solid Silo?
This is where there should be a discussion about rating and review pods. How to handle this on solid. Someone opened a solid pod or ten, and created crafty usernames (for seo results) about a business in an effort to create a public review of that company, which falls under Freedom of Speech rights in America, but the review was not pretty. So a lawyer calls up Inrupt and complains about their reputation and all of a sudden, the server is downgraded to experimental and no longer searchable? The power of using a solid pod to create a rating or review of a company, individual, or anything can be pretty sobering if its not in your favor. You can create any type of account like https://example-company-sells-snake-oil.solid.community. Back that up with some more uri's to further drive down the spike and create three other pods with similar user names and interconnect them and walla, your ratings pods are on top of google and on the first page of that business name.
@mikeadams1 If you ask me, any system that doesn't provide total anonymity and holds public data in relation to users can be used to "score" people in some way.
@mikeadams1 Regarding the idea of reviews and rating, it's the same old discussion of freedom vs. security. I believe in the open web and I think any hierarchy of "power" and "control" regarding user generated content contradicts it's core values and leads to misuse and injustice at some point in time. The decentralized web gives us the one-time opportunity to give data into the hands of the users -- and into their responsibility as well. At the same time, a decentralized web requires a responsible use of it. For me, solid feels like a highway in the form of an asterisk... you can drive in any direction with any vehicle. May it be a bike or a tank. But once there is censorship, it would become a censored decentralized web. It is a philosophical question. But once one influential organization goes in the one way or another, towards freedom or security, we can be sure that it sets the "defaults" for the whole community. And so, I think the decision to introduce such measures should be very well thought out.
It may turn out that there are just different philosophies across different Pod providers... Like some may end up enforcing strict rules and real person identification etc. etc. while others let whatever happens happen
