I should also mention I just found my id https://localhost:8443/profile/card#me located in the db directory under users. and now I try to use this to login and it gives me the 500 error registering client
I noticed that you are using
https://localhost:8443/sharontest for your ID provider. Instead, just click on the upper left button https://localhost:8443 and you will be prompted for username/pw. The /sharontest might be throwing things off, unless you are in multiuser mode (I'm not an expert at all here, just trying to figure out things myself).
So basically, for local dev, you are in a single-user mode unless you follow the multi-userinstructions here: https://github.com/solid/node-solid-server#running-in-development-environments
But I think the /sharontest might be the problem in single-user mode.

I have been thinking of writing a pod server in Rust. maybe it'll be useful, but the motivation would be to learn what a pod server is about in detail
I can't even estimate how ambitious this would be at this point
solid.community is a pod provider (free pod hosting), that is running node-solid-server (https://github.com/solid/node-solid-server)
and yes you could just use the current data-browser/solid-ui on top of it
