I have a question about this. 1. says that these apps have access to ALL my resources? Is this like I give them "root" access to all my data? An address book app can read my calendar? A photo app can read my address book? And if control is set, then also delete it? Or is there any finer grained level of access possible which I can't see here in the UI?
Jeff Zucker
@jeff-zucker
@frankgerhardt that only gives the app permission, the user has to also have permission ... additionally, you can put trustedApp statements in the access control document for any resource to block an app with finer grained control.

@frankgerhardt
Where can I read more about this finer grained control?

Does the url in a Solid Pod have any bearing whether it is Pascal or Camel Case in the set of Standards and Protocols?
Sarven Capadisli
@csarven
@mikcaweb http/https schemes are case-sensitive for URI components other than scheme, host, and percent-encoding -- but you may want to double check for us all :) in RFC 3986 and 7230 probably . (eg. https://www.w3.org/TR/ldn/ and https://www.w3.org/tr/ldn/ are different identifiers.) The Solid Protocol doesn't change that. Not sure if all implementations conform though... some servers may treat the path component case-insensitive others may redirect to the canonical. By the way, there is https://gitter.im/solid/specification for spec chat.
Sarven Capadisli
@csarven
I should say.. if authorized, servers would return a 404 because it is case-sensitive, and some servers might 301.
Sarven Capadisli
@csarven
Hmm, now you have me looking things up.. if I'm reading RFC 5988 right.. when using URIs as relation types, the whole string must be compared in a case-insensitive fashion.
Mark Foster
@mikcaweb
Thank You @csarven for the specification channel. I was watching SolidWorld December 2020 and the topic of privacy and use of data came up, I have been looking at the Data Label project https://www.datalabel.org/ is this type of discussion handled in the interoperability channel?
Sarven Capadisli
@csarven
Are you particularly interested in that Data Label or somehow ended up there? You may want to dig around https://lov.linkeddata.es/dataset/lov/terms if you're looking for vocabs/ontologies. You may be interested in the authorization and/or data-interoperability-panel but... you may want to start-off from the spec channel as that's the general channel for specs (Ecosystem..).
Mark Foster
@mikcaweb
@csarven Thanks for the linkeddata resource does it fee directly for the project sources ie: https://schema.org/version/latest/schemaorg-current-http.ttl I’m mainly interested in how data should be handled reused etc. GDPR. I was wondering if there was a specific channel discussing how Solid should operate with certain rules.
Mark Foster
@mikcaweb
@csarven * feed directly from the project source, rather
@csarven Is there a Solid interoperability channel?

@mikcaweb What you're asking is very broad.. which is why I suggested to narrow down in the solid/specification channel. Is it only the data modelling, protocol.. authorization, consent.. privacy? all? Our data-interoperability-panel doesn't cover everything under the sun. Nor should it.
See https://w3.org/ns/dpv for the Data Privacy Vocabulary which is closely aligned with GDPR
Sarven Capadisli
@csarven
"how data should be handled reused" -- in the general sense, yes, the https://gitter.im/solid/data-interoperability-panel is the channel you can discuss further. I sense that there is more to what you're looking for..
Sarven Capadisli
@csarven
@mikcaweb See also https://w3.org/ns/dpv-gdpr

@csarven
And if you're interested in GDPR+Provenance, see https://w3id.org/GDPRov
We are potential users of that work.. if you want to get into the weeds / development of those vocabs, I suggest to check out the Data Privacy Vocabularies and Controls Community Group: https://www.w3.org/community/dpvcg/ .. As to how that's used in the context of the Solid ecosystem, you're at the right place.. it'd be good to know what you're up to / use cases .. so we can see what we have or need to do.

Hi. Happy to answer questions about this stuff. IMO the "best-fit" is DPV being a simple declarative vocabulary to declare 'policies'. For more semantics, can be integrated with ODRL, but really needs use-case to be sketched out first. E.g. compliance checking is needed? Querying? Levels/nesting of complexities? etc.
For a generic, I store/use/access this data, for this purpose, with this legal basis --> DPV is nice.
Mark Foster
@mikcaweb
@csarven https://dpvcg.github.io/dpv/ is perfect, I think this is in tune with what I’m looking for, I work with HIPAA compliant Digital Market with call logs crms etc.

@timbl Like I mentioned in https://chat.indieweb.org/social/2021-01-21#t1611266790267700 (and lines after).. that content was put together by folks not in/around Solid. I only provided them with initial / high-level explanation of the project awhile back in a meeting. Will get back to them with updates.

@csarven What is Matrix building?
Never mind, I See, are they using Solid pods?

I’m having trouble understanding the file size stipulated in solid pods. For instance, when a file says it’s size is 4069 what does that mean exactly?
Alain Bourgeois
@bourgeoa
@mikeadams1 for NSS it is the linux file size.

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that Digita created some short explainer movies about Solid related subjects. You can watch our first episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDTILbFOv2Q
We are working on more episodes of Solid in Short and are also creating another series: Solid Tech Talk.
