Meeting minutes 22.09:
  • auth-upgrade - ongoing. There are still problems on the test server which is set up with multi-user. Jackson is to keep at it after getting access to the test server. Everything reported on solid/solidos#38
  • NEW team meeting time: 18:00 CET every Wednesday! If anyone wants a Google calendar invite let Timea know. (Hoping @ewingson can join now too and @jeff-zucker and @jaxoncreed and @lamillr and anyone else who wants) - we are going to give it a try and if it works also after the time changes (winter time) we will keep it till March.
  • documentation was discussed. Thank you for contributing to the discussion over at https://github.com/solid/solidos/discussions/49!
  • We feedbacked the docu diagram, particularly what is missing is: forum and Google SEO (for solidOS).
  • We discussed the idea of having landing pages on the solidproject.org for Data Kitchen and SolidOS - targeted at users. The Data Kitchen and SolidOS GitHub readmes should be landing pages for developers. In both cases, the emphasis should be on the aspirations we have for these projects and invite, through links, people to help.
  • regarding the content itself: there should be a standard set of links that we put on TOP (and maybe at the bottom again) of all documentation places to catch people's attention and point them faster around.
  • regarding presenting documentation, MDN (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/) and the Inrupt dev docus (https://docs.inrupt.com/) we mentioned as examples. This will be further discussed in the next team meetings.
    TODOs:
  • Timea to change team meeting time on https://solidos.solidcommunity.net/
  • Timea to ping Justin to get Jackson access to test server faster
  • people involved in solidproject.org to bring up the landing page idea for Data Kitchen and SolidOS. See what the team there thinks about it?
  • if anyone sees something they want to improve in the docu please go ahead. For example:
  • on gitter solidOs change the channel description to point to solidOS gitHub instead of solid gitHub
  • write a description under the solidos repo in gitHub
  • come up with a set of standard links we should post in all docus
  • work on landing page content both for users and for developers
  • update solidOS user guide
  • link solidOS userguide to its GitHub readme (at least)

good overview @theRealImy . and the diagram was fine, too. will be able to join today (if you don't mind me I'm mostly junior/observer ;-) Sharon has passed the baby programmer role over to me....)

Maybe "Working with SolidOS? -> “DevelopingSolidOS” to avoid users hoping it will help them?
Alain Bourgeois
@bourgeoa
Thanks good point

@timbl
Why not fold that information into the README ?
Is it clear what belongs in which?
Alain Bourgeois
@bourgeoa
Not clear I agree. It is just a quick response to questions.

@theRealImy
What would be a nice short description of SolidOS put under the reporistory name in GitHub?
Data kitchen has "The SolidOS Databrowser technology as a stand-alone electron app"
The audience is developers.
Matthias Evering
@ewingson
"The Default-App (Operating System) running on the Solid-Pod-Website functional as Databrowser" ??? (just a quick guess...)

I just started a discussion towards the rewriting of the SolidOS readme: https://github.com/solid/solidos/discussions/63
I invite you to debate the points there or to simply point out what is missing.

Hi, I want to use a JS RDF lib for my work. What is the "best" one now? (I have been out of the loop for a long time working on a PhD)
bblfish
@bblfish:matrix.org

I guess it is rdflib.js as folks are using it here, but perhaps there is a new contender and the community is moving over to that or perhaps not, or perhaps something else one should consider? Or perhaps there is a forum where these things are discussed :-)
Tim Berners-Lee
@timbl
Here we use rdflib.js and can’t really use anythingh else as it has much highe level functions of loading stuff from the data web and managing streams of upsteam and downstream changes to a resource.
The Fetcher and the UpdateManager. So here you won’t real;y find discussions of alternatives. There aer cerianly discsssions of the low levell interfaces, and standaizing those so you can swap out your back end, but net we didn’t want o have to give up the high level stuff in rdflib.js

Ok, thanks that is very helpful.
I want see if I can map rdflib to Scala 3 interfaces that works with my PR on banana-rdf banana-rdf/banana-rdf#370
We have Jena and Sesame RDF integrations, so if another JS lib comes up, it should not be a problem to add that too .

I have a question regarding the session Store which is a LiveStore from the pane-registry, as it seems.
Situation:
I delete something in the session store in one pane but in another pane, which also makes use of the same session store (theoretically, I hope) the statement is still there. What am I doing wrong?
Timea
@theRealImy
Edit: the session Store is a IndexedFormula from rdflib in both panes
Jeff Zucker
@jeff-zucker
@theRealImy - are either of the panes inside an iframe and/or opened with an http link rather than a gotoSubject link? Are you using the new auth or the old?

Did you want to change the data in the pod or the data in the LiveStore or both?

I am looking into the refresh problem when one deletes a folder in the folder-pane. For now, what I can see is that the refresh() exists, is implemented, I just needed to trigger it upon delete.
However, curiously, after delete when the kb looks for the folders, to display, the deleted folder is still there.
This happens in 2 panes: delete happens in internal-pane and the refresh, load of folders, happens in folder-pane. Each have their own kb but theoretically same session store... hm..
Alain Bourgeois
@bourgeoa
@theRealImy I think the delete does nothing in the store. You should try to unload/reload.

The reason is that the folder representation is a server creation. There are no webO.peration for it
Timea
@theRealImy
I found the solution! One needs to refresh the resource on the kb because load is not enough... because it does not see the deleted triples otherwise. 😅
I am still learning the rdflib it seems like. In this particular case the fetcher.
it is confusing a bit. I need to dig a bit more to really understand what is going on.
Timea
@theRealImy
@bourgeoa quick question: should there be a recursive delete of folders? There is a function deleteReursive but it does not work if I have more than 2 nested folders. (folder in folder). If i have folder in folder in folder it only deletes 2 out of 3.

Ok I found a bug ticket and because the fix goes across 2 repos I needed to create 2 PRs:
solid/folder-pane#23 and solid/solid-panes#304
Pls feedback.

Hei there.
I am working since Monday on adding a new drop down in the header which links to user guide and to the git issues. Irregardless of the feature, which we can talk about it on the PR, i have a hard time to build solidOs with the new solid-ui branch (where the changes are).
I tries the usual how to build (https://github.com/solid/solidos/wiki/DevelopingWithSolidOS). And I even tried building one module after the other BUT i do not know how to add the local branch/projects to solidOS. npx lerna bootstrap --force-local does not work here.
-> basically my new feature is implemented, ready to be tested in solidOs but I do not know how.
I developed it by using storybook.

Team SolidOS meeting notes 29.09.21:
  • auth-upgrade - A new (and maybe hopefully final) PR was done for auth upgrade. Alain to update stack and deploy on testserver to try it.
  • Jackson will give a code review for the team about what got changed - first proposal is on the 13th Oct 18:00 CET (instead of the usual team meeting) @angelo-v can you participate?
  • an interesting point was made about creating test cases on the bugs encountered in the auth-upgrade.
  • Aaron offered to give the team a know how transfer about auth too -> team agrees to have this planned after code review, with scope of knowing what the future auth will look like.
  • the team talked over different scenarios of logging in on different pods with same ids and such, more discussions to be added and followed here: solid/solidos#55
  • the solidOS readme is going to get an update in a PR next days, based on https://github.com/solid/solidos/discussions/63
  • and from the spec meetings there will be soon a pool going around asking us what are our upcoming priorities for solid spec
    Thank you all! If something was forgotten please add.

In a separate node, Jackson nicely got us started and excited on the auth upgrade knowledge transfer and told us that the code changes involve 3 points:
1) field names changed
2) no more token nesting
3) no more using local store
If you are like me and want to know more about them don't miss the code review about it. Date is to be settled so stay tuned for the announcement when it is going to be (roughly in about 2 weeks).

Works on the server-side mashlib, does not on data-kitchen :-(
Jeff Zucker
@jeff-zucker
Is the mashlib alpha at latest? Does it pull in all changes in other libraries without symlinks?
Alain Bourgeois
@bourgeoa
@jeff-zucker none it is the previous mashlib 1.7.5-alpha-d9bd19aa manually patched by @jaxoncreed. I try to publish new mashlib soon.
Jeff Zucker
@jeff-zucker
thanks, I rebuilt everything but still not sure I am working from same mashlib. Is there a URL on solidcommunity.net:8443 for mashlib.js that I could use as a CDN?
