@Nodd Well to be honest I absolutely love spyder when I am doing some terminal oriented project or a for fun script for instance https://github.com/thewhitetulip/SamplePythonScripts/blob/master/video.py, in which I made the script play a set of videos randomly without repeating, but when it comes to web or perhaps specifically for django dev spyder is not suitable
@goanpeca I feel the UI of spyder can be improved along with customization even partially in the way lighttable provides, we can provide an option to open an external browser inside the IDE, I don't know if we can open a bash prompt in spyder, if not then we can provide a way to open one, we can make writing plugins super easy. right now when you want to import a project you can't import an existing python project which isn't a spyder project, we can initialize a spyder project inside an existing non spyder project via the import command,

@thewhitetulip thanks for the ideas :), actually we are currently working in a complete revamp of the project interface in spyder, and hopefully the ability to add new projects via external plugins, so Spyder can focus on its core (python/cython, python packages and spyder plugins) and leave other project types (django, pelican, C, R, Julia, CSS, MArkdown) as plugins.

@cjrh  It is a nice editor cum IDE, but real efforts can be taken to severely improve the UI & distribution, currently there is no built in way to upgrade spyder I believe, I run 2.1.9, still :worried:

We will include better version control support (git and mercurial) from within spyder and finally the optinal inclusion of a dedicated environment setup (via virtual env or conda)
it is a huge effort, but hopefully for 2.4 will be ready

Cool, well the easiest way to start helping with spyder is trying to fix a simple bug or trying to develop a simple feature, so my advice would be to go to the issue tracker and find something that interests you in particular
from there we can try to point you in the right direction

sypder is nice, and it will come across as an excellent alternative to finally dump eclipse!

and remember to take a look at the wiki, even though it is still under development, it can (hopefully) provide a better entry point for the github workflow and the internals

@thewhitetulip Upgrading spyder itself depends on how you installed it. It's very common to install it either from a Linux distribution or a python distribution like Anaconda, WinPython or Python(x,y). In both cases the updates are handled in the distribution itself.
Otherwise upgrading spyder is a matter of downloading a .exe and running it !
