@goanpeca Actually we don't need to use terminado at all, I went though the source code and will contact you whenever I get stuck

Elementary OS
I had a doubt about running spyder from the source while editing it, I have created a local branch
I made a few changes of my own to the source code and when I try to do python bootstrap.py it says "Executing Spyder from source checkout"
What should I do to run spyder from the branch that I modified?
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos

you should first make a fork of the repo, and then clone the forked repo locally
the create your branches there and work there...
if you run python bootstrap it runs the files you have (the branch you are)

I have forked the project, I have cloned the project in my local machine and I have gone though the github-workflow file

great, then what seems to be the issue?

I have two branches in the local version of spyder, master and suraj, I wanted to test if my spyder version is being executed from the suraj branch
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:00
well if you type git branch what do you see
Suraj Patil
@thewhitetulip
Mar 25 2015 14:01
master
  • suraj
it shows a star next to suraj, which means the suraj branch is current branch
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:01
so you are in suraj, and the files should reflect that so python bootstrap should run the branch code
Suraj Patil

Mar 25 2015 14:05
Okay, how can I quickly test that it is executing from that particular branch? Do I need to commit my changes before they reflect in the spyder window?
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:05
nope
committing has nothing to do
if you changed some files and have not commited
python bootstrap will run the modified files
Suraj Patil
@thewhitetulip
Mar 25 2015 14:07
why does python bootstrap say "running the source checkout"?
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:07
dont know, ask @techtonik
bootstrap is not handling any version control related issues.
Suraj Patil
@thewhitetulip
Mar 25 2015 14:08
Okay
I want to check if the version that I modify is the version being run
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:08
yes it is and always will be
unless you checkout to a different branch (after commiting changes)
Suraj Patil
@thewhitetulip
Mar 25 2015 14:09
okay, could you please tell me where is the variable which is printed on the top saying spyder 3.0dev?
if I could change that variable/string to something custom I can be sure that the changed code is being executed
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:09
you should not change that
why would you change that?
Suraj Patil
@thewhitetulip
Mar 25 2015 14:10
just to see if the the modified files are being executed
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:10
they are
lines in my local branch to self.currentline_color = QColor(Qt.blue).lighter(190)
but the editor still showed the red color as the background in the text editor!
as background of the current line
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:14
yes
it clearly says
# The color values may be overridden by the syntax highlighter
so that change you did changed nothing as the syntax highlighter overwrote that

just jumping in the middle, in master, there is a problem with current line highlighting in the presence of cells
I opened an issue in that regard
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos
@goanpeca
Mar 25 2015 14:17
@SylvainCorlay did you looked at the PR :p ?
Suraj Patil
@thewhitetulip
Mar 25 2015 14:18
what is the PR?
Gonzalo Peña-Castellanos

btw i just verified that the bootstrap is executing my modified files :smile:
how about making the background highlight color of a line light blue instead of light red?

I received a mail from gitter: "Our free plan will now include an unlimited number of private rooms and unlimited chat history in addition to the existing unlimited integrations and public rooms."
Yay !
Also, to check if a code is actually being run, I insert a 1/0 where I want to check and try to run it, so it can't go unnoticed !
way faster that changing the version, and it works for everything, everywhere...
