Excuse me, what's wrong with Project Explorer? I've downloaded recent version of WinPython and Spyder now shows only 1 project at a time. Switching between them via Projects/recent projects menu is just a pain.

@ccordoba12 About the use case. I want to use Spyder similarly to R-Studio, i.e. I have short scripts that I run line by line, one or few lines at time, and repeat this process many times. Doing this creates lots of output into the console window and I want to clear it from time to time. It's easier to read and focus what's important there, when it doesn't have so much output.

ok. i see now #2460 In case projects will switch FASTER than they do now, it would be ok to show them in Project Explorer as links with only one currently opened. imho.

@mkoske, we would need the shortcut to clear consoles a global one for this to work, but I don't think we will do it because it could interfere quite easily with shortcuts for other plugins in the long run
@Winand, showing links to other projects in the Project Explorer would confuse other people, so I don't think we will do it. We don't expect people to be constantly switching between projects so I think the current design is fine

@ccordoba12 nobody wants to constantly switch projects:) But if i need to see how i solved a problem in an older project i have to switch to it and then back. What about opening each project in a new window instead of all this switching? I think this solution makes sense with the new 1-window-for-1-project design.

You can open as many instances of Spyder as you want. For that you need to change the option in Preferences > General > Advanced Settings > Use a single instance
