@dadatadoctor, you need to go to the menu Source > Run static code analysis

@dadatadoctor You can also read the docs for more ways to activate it, as well as information on the options, configuration and functionality.

@CAM-Gerlach the script I was running was exactly: print("hello world") the version was 3.3.1 on win 10 update 1703. I have the latest spyder and spyder-kernels from conda, but I can't check the other until I'm back at work on monday.. I'm not aware of anything changing before this problem started and I was wondering if something about windows update may have done it.

@athompson673 Okay, thanks. Its possible it could be some sort of security/firewall/antivirus change, since occasionally such programs block Spyder's connection to its kernels. Try temporarily disabling that if you can, to confirm that's not the case, run the requested update command and let me know the other settings, and I can then run it on my Win 10 test machine to see if it can be reproduced. Thanks!

It's my work computer so that's a no-go. How else would I be able to check connection to a new kernel? Running in the current console (not a dedicated one) seemed to work fine.

@CAM-Gerlach I can at least confirm my personal machine works as expected after updating everything. Also now that I'm thinking about it, my work computer may actually be on 1709 while my personal is on 1703, but hopefully that shouldn't matter..
