I have a feature request for the Connect to existing kernel dialog (Spyder 4beta1)
It would be great if the dialog could be made to remember settings, and/or could be brought back with the current settings if the connection failed.

E.g. if I enter connection settings and make a slight mistake in doing so, I need to retype everything.
This is especially cumbersome if one is new to this feature and needs to retype everything over and over again until it works...
It would already help if the error message would allow to go one step back:
+------------------------------------------------------------+
|Unable to connect to /xxxx/kernel-1234.json |
| | OK | Reopen Settings | |
+------------------------------------------------------------+

This is actually being worked on right now, in spyder-ide/spyder#7914

It would already help if the error message would allow to go one step back:

Even better, it doesn't make any sense to close the connection dialog in the first place if the connection failed, since almost certainly the user will want to fix their settings and try again. I'll mention that in the thread, and you are welcome to give further feedback there on what we've done so far. Thanks!

Ooops sorry, it left too quickly. Let's start again: Hello, I have screwed-up my spyder environment probably after mixing some conda forge tools. Now, when I try to launch Spyder, the 3-window default environment appears, but it gets frozen before any kernel is launched, leading to a complete freeze of the PC during 5 seconds (asking me to restart Outlook, Excel...) and stating that "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has sucessfully recovered", the PYDER_DEBUG=3 logs are left frozen after "Adding thread" and a Close window by clicking X:
Question : if it is the conda forge mixing issue, how can I clean up my environment - I already reinstalled completely Anaconda3 but it seems that something else is broken.

That's a very serious error, but its totally beyond the control of Spyder, since it is pure Python (and has no ability to drastically affect your OS and video drivers in such a manner). Most likely, as you suggest it had something to do with sort of incompatibility or bug in the C code in one or more packages, e.g. installed via conda-forge, that has to do with video rendering, or a problem in your system graphics drivers themselves.

I already reinstalled completely Anaconda3 but it seems that something else is broken.

What makes you think that? I.e. are you experiencing the exact same error, or something else?

In any case, if it still persists after a complete clean Anaconda uninstall/reinstall, then its either something serious with Anaconda (which should be reported to them), or something specific to your OS/graphics drivers, in which case that would need to be fixed by your OS, GPU, etc. manufacturer or by otherwise working around or resolving the problem on your end.

Thanks a lot. Yes, unfortunately, I already made a full deinstallation/reinstallation of Ana3 and made all kinds of update and downgrade linked to the latest tickets and blog discussions. I will go and see on Anaconda's side.
