@rmarcost_twitter Not sure, but you can try the steps listed in the Spyder Troubleshooting Guide, specifically the Basic First Aid and Emergency CPR sections, which resolve the great majority of Spyder installation issues.
Make sure you're launching Spyder from the Start menu shortcut, not Anaconda Navigator, since Navigator can sometimes have bugs that are beyond our control and its also much faster and more efficient to do so. Also, something like that may be due to security, antivirus or firewall programs on your system, so you should try temporarily disabling them and if the problem goes away. It could be graphics card-related issues; try updating drivers; if you have e.g. both an Intel and a Nvidia or AMD GPU, try disabling one or the other; and try running
conda install pyqt=5.6 qt=5.6 from the Anaconda prompt and then running Spyder again. You can also try installing Spyder into an isolated environment, with
conda create -n spyder-env python=3.6 activate spyder-env conda install spyder spyder
