Gord Thompson
@gordthompson

oh wow I think I just hit a bug in my prtogerrit thing

Yeah, I just got 3 emails. First one normal and then two "empty" ones.

mike bayer
@zzzeek
well I wanted to add you both to look at that PR
but apparnetlty when you select three reviewers at once the messaging received by the script wasnt ready for that, OK
OK
OK anything else ?
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
not for me.
Gord Thompson
@gordthompson
I'm good. Time for a "brisk" walk.
mike bayer
@zzzeek
great
thanks all!
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
@zzzeek I've reviewed https://gerrit.sqlalchemy.org/c/sqlalchemy/sqlalchemy/+/2376 but I've not merged it
mike bayer
@zzzeek
@CaselIT great

nvm, it's also at sqlalchemy/sqlalchemy#5717

mike bayer
@zzzeek
@gordthompson I put up a gerrit that should fix it
mike bayer
@zzzeek
just bought a $20 power meter. the d2 machine was drawing about 100W when idle (!!!!)
thats my oldest dell that I bought used
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
that seems high
mike bayer
@zzzeek
yes!
its 40% of my whole rack here that has like 20 things plugged in!
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
are you planning on replacing it?
mike bayer
@zzzeek
shrugs
i wish jenkins would fix that cloud bug so i could use digital ocean more reliably
im sad b.c. this was an old machine i bought,then it died and I went through all the trouble to buya new motherboard and do the whole fix and it worked
like i successfully diagnosed the issue
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
I've always assembled my own desktop pcs, so it did happen to me a couple of times. My current one is a ~2014 vintage I think
mike bayer
@zzzeek
im going to hypotehsize that pcs running linux are lower power consumption when idle vs. a windows pc
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
But I guess you could find some used amd zen pc for cheap as people upgrade to zen3. And they have 12-16 cores :)
I guees so. A lot less crap at idle. Also the graphic card consume a lot. You can remove it for a server if you only use it as headless
mike bayer
@zzzeek
@CaselIT Im chjanging the formatting of the examples in https://gerrit.sqlalchemy.org/c/sqlalchemy/sqlalchemy/+/2352/2/doc/build/changelog/migration_20.rst to be multi line
also changingt he format of hte links because they are blowing up vertically
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
ok, feel free. Sorry but I don't have much spare time at the moment. a bit swamped at work :(
mike bayer
@zzzeek
no prob :)
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
will try to move along a bit the alembic support for identity
mike bayer
@zzzeek
did you want that in for 1.5.0 ?
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
if there is no particular rush to release it, yes
it would be nice to have it out so people can use it with sa1.4
also because in mssql it basically is always used when reflecting
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
I think we could remove the testing/exclusions.py in alembic, since we target 1.3 that I believe already had it?
mike bayer
@zzzeek
@CaselIT yes that may be the case now
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
added an issue, since I've noticed that alembic is also missing tests for sqlite computed
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT
@zzzeek i've got a problem I don't know how to best solve:
if I have a Column('foo', Integer, Identity()) this renders the default, but when reflecting I get back Identity(start=1, increment=1, minvalue=1, maxvalue=2147483647, cycle=False, cache=1)
how do I compare that and decide that they are the same?
mike bayer
@zzzeek
I just broke jenkins, fixing
@CaselIT with that kind of thing we look at the attributes and if an attribute is not set, we dont comapre it to the reflected one
we assume it's a DB default
the type comparison logic does this, actualy it does it in both directions which is probbly less than ideal
Federico Caselli
@CaselIT

I just broke jenkins, fixing

so you can check off the daily to do list:
[x] fight against the ci

@CaselIT with that kind of thing we look at the attributes and if an attribute is not set, we dont comapre it to the reflected one

that makes sense. thanks

Jonathan Vanasco
@jvanasco
@zzzeek if it's 100W when idle, you could test the power draw at a few lower load levels, to see if the power supply has a high minimum draw. you might be able to just swap out a more efficient power supply.

im still trying to find a way to not spin up 16 digital ocean instances at once
20 cents a pop this is an expensive way to debug
