yeah sorry i can't replicate this error anymore. it happend 3 times now but it always resolved itself somehow
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
as said, it most likely depends on the window size (width or height)
if you can manage to reproduce it, please open an issue on the issue tracker with the exact information of the window size
Novari
@novari:tchncs.de
[m]
will do
also. can i add the --disable-gpu command in the gui somewhere so it auto starts with it
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
This all has been implemented years ago, and I carefully had a look at the window sizes, so this is a bit surprising. I reckon there must be something wrong with the latest Chromium releases. Do you have a screen with fractional scaling by any chance?

in the gui

no, because then you'd have already started it. This is a Chromium parameter, and you'll have to set it in your launcher / shortcut / however you're launching the application

Novari
@novari:tchncs.de
[m]
i have no idea what that means "fractional scaling" so i guess no?
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
a global scaling factor of your desktop environment, eg. 1.5x or 1.75x instead of 1x or 2x
Novari
@novari:tchncs.de
[m]
no, should be 1x
in KDE its on 100% default

I'm asking because there was a similar issue with context menus after a recent bump of the NW.js/Chromium platform, but okay.

Novari
@novari:tchncs.de
[m]
the error seems to happen on a first boot and first opening so far
```[20777:20783:0915/204654.101794:ERROR:cert_verify_proc_builtin.cc(601)] No net_fetcher for performing AIA chasing.
thats the only error i see now
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
that's a Chromium error message which is irrelevant
Regarding --disable-gpu, if you want to set this as a default launch parameter, then you'll have to copy the application launcher file in ~/.local/share/applications (from /usr/share/applications if you're running a packaged version of the app) and modify the Exec field.
That's all I can do for now. If you manage to reproduce the problem, please open an issue, thank you.
streamlink isnt loading thumbnails for any streams, every stream is just the purple twitch logo in the gui
Is there any way to make the thumbnails show up?
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
This happens when there's an issue on Twitch's servers and they don't generate thumbnails for live streams. This has nothing to do with Streamlink Twitch GUI
Would it be possible to make a feature to follow streams in the app, but not actually follow them on Twitch?
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
There's a similar feature request for following games on the issue tracker, but that's because Twitch has removed support for following games on the public APIs a while ago.
Either way, locally following streams/channels doesn't make any sense.
Btw, the new API will require authentication for ANY API request, which means logins will become mandatory soon, so the argument that locally following streams can be done anonymously becomes invalid.
Hello, sorry for disturbing but I tried to upgrade to Streamlink-Twitch-gui 1.13 (from 1.11) and now nothing is working. I am using Lubuntu 20.04, I just downloaded linux32 release in zip, copied streamlink-twitch-gui folder to /opt successfully. When I launch streamlink-twitch-gui from command line I get "command not found" error. When I launch it from menu, nothing happens.
Streamlink-V shows I have version 2.4.0 on my system.
basti
command not found
because running streamlink-twitch-gui from the command line shell will look up the streamlink-twitch-gui executable in one of the paths registered in your PATH env var. This doesn't magically find the executable in a random place where you've extracted the archive
you will either have to symlink the executable to /usr/bin or use an absolute or relative path for launching it
I'd suggest using the appimage though, as this makes it much simpler for inexperienced users
also much simpler when no packages are available for your distro
Nightsax
@Nightsax
Thanks for the answer. I launched it from /opt/streamling-twitch-gui folder and nothing happens. I downloaded AppImage release but when i double click it, nothing happens
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
have you set the +x flag on the appimage? what does it say when you execute the appimage from the shell. there must be log output in stderr
if you're not able to launch the appimage, then it's either becuase you have downloaded the appimage for the wrong architecture, or FUSE is not available on your system for mounting the embedded squashfs (where the application files are stored in)
Nightsax
@Nightsax
Ok i had downloaded wrong Appimage. Thanks for your time and help, I'll try that and ask for help later if I cannot solve this.
anyone have any ideas or thoughts on getting the gui to use a player that supports airplay for streaming to a tv? im having some issues getting quicktime to work
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
That's not what the Twitch GUI is designed for. Use Streamlink via the CLI instead. I have absolutely no experience about anything apple related, but you have a couple of output options with Streamlink. Check the documentation.
Check the --stream-url parameter or --player-external-http
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
If you have an application which can create an airplay server (not sure how this works, probably similar to DLNA) and which can get an HLS URL as input, then --stream-url can help. Maybe you could try creating a named pipe and piping Streamlink's output into it via --stdout > /path/to/pipe and then using the named pipe as input. Or try Streamlink's http server output via --player-external-http.
hennigarj
@hennigarj
awesome, thank you so much for the help!
FWIW i did manage to just get quicktime to open up the stream ā€“ but i am getting the purple advertisement screen which seems just to be by nature of the passthrough according to some old github issues so quicktime might just not be the solution anyways!
basti
@bastimeyer:matrix.org
[m]
Yes, that's correct. The passthrough method is just another way of launching the player and giving it the HLS URL from Twitch as input instead of giving it Streamlink's output as input. Streamlink can filter out ads with its custom HLS implementation, and your player can not. Your player however will most likely support stream discontinuities between ad segments, which it can not when reading Streamlink's output.
Btw, there's a change on Streamlink's master branch with a new prevention of embedded ads which was discovered after the recent Twitch leaks. This will give you a stream without ads or purple screens.
