Every time I open a file I have to toggle visual-line-navigation using SPC t L. And yet, putting (setq 'visual-line-navigation t)inside (defun dotspacemacs/user-init () ... ) doesn't seem to do anything. What am I failing to understand?
Christian Hopps
@choppsv1
Mar 31 2016 00:34
ooh I like persistent-scratch package
@mathpunk I think you want to call spacemacs/toggle-visual-line-navigation in your user-config
Christian Hopps
@choppsv1
Mar 31 2016 00:40
@mathpunk that is (dotspacemacs/user-config () ... (spacemacs/toggle-visual-line-navigation) ...)
Tom Henderson
@mathpunk
Mar 31 2016 00:40
@choppsv1 Ah-ha. Just wrap that in parens so it gets called? New to elisp...
@choppsv1 Incidentally, is there any reason this is in user-config and not user-init? It's not clear what the difference is
Christian Hopps
@choppsv1
Mar 31 2016 00:40
yeah.. so you want it in user-config b/c you want it after spacemacs has set things up (which happens after user-init)
and for future reference all I did was SPC h d k SPC t L for help describe key and then the key sequence
Tom Henderson
@mathpunk
Mar 31 2016 00:41

Christian Hopps

doesn’t persistent-scratch kind of defeat the point of a scratch buffer?
Christian Hopps
@choppsv1
Mar 31 2016 00:42
no :)
it makes it super user in how I use it
I play with lisp in scratch I really don't want it temporary, I just want a place for random experiments
er super useful
so basically it's just like scratch would normally be if emacs never exited :)

lol yeah, I did not even wonder if I should remove it, actually I don’t remember what I thought when I saw it :-)
I guess it can be problematic for some people using different fonts, it would be better to use spacemacs|diminish which takes two values to be used depending on dotspacemacs-mode-line-unicode-symbols

Hi all! I'm new to emacs entirely, using spacemacs on osx 10.11, coming from a vim background. I eff'd up and somehow froze emacs, so I closed iterm, when I went to run emacs from the cmdline again it says zsh: permission denied /.emacs.d/spacemacs.mk
What should the permissions be?
I killed the process too by running kill <PID>

(add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.ino\\'" . c-mode)) in your .spacemacs file
in the user config section
looking on the web there are a few arduino modes for emacs floating around too, if you want something more specific to arduino, though of course those will come without evilified bindings

you have a good PHP debugger that is well integrated with spacemacs?

There's a PHP layer, but it doesn't appear to include a debugger

Has anyone had issues with SCSS mode from the web layer not correctly highlighting syntax? The same file in CSS mode however is highlighted correctly. I know SCSS mode derives from CSS so it should carry over all the syntax highlighting shouldn't it?

@j4 I haven’t used it, but Geben is probably what you’re looking for. If you’re on a Mac and use Codebug, there’s an emacs extension that lets you set your Codebug breakpoints from Spacemacs.

I have a question. I use org layer. I noticed that function org-edit-src-code is not bound to default key C-c ' when in SRC block. How can I find what is the keybinding?

Hi guys, Spacemacs newbie here, migrating from vim-land.
What's the best way to set up rtags autocompletion for C++ in Spacemacs?

OK. I've solved the issue with C-c ' by following last comment to syl20bnr/spacemacs#3314

So I've uninstalled by brew rm emacs-mac, I rm -rf ~/.emacs.d and then ran brew install emacs-mac and brew linkapps and git clone ... spacemacs into ~/.emacs.d but I run emacs and I get permission denied: /Users/kfrz/.emacs.d/spacemacs.mk

@ctrlShiftBryan but reaching for the up arrow is blasphemy : P , ctrl P does the trick too , then use the emacs kbs to navigate to where you want to edit ,

@kfrz What permissions have the file /Users/kfrz/.emacs.d/spacemacs.mk? Can you type ls -l /Users/kfrz/.emacs.d/spacemacs.mk in terminal?
