@cyberscientist
ok, so when you say , e e h h is that SPC e e h h?
duianto
@duianto
Just , (comma) as the first key, it opens the major mode commands which key popup, it can also be opened with SPC m
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
SPC m is undefined so is , as the first key
duianto
@duianto
They are based on the major mode, did you uncomment the org layer?
Or maybe that was the last screenshot you posted, it seems like your having problems with contacting melpa.
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
I commented org out again, but It still tries to install things on start up but it fails to connect to gu and melpa
duianto
@duianto
Are you behind a proxy? Try staring Emacs with the --insecure argument.
then it will use http instead of https
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
So do I uncomment org in my .spacemac file? or do just type in emacs-htmlize in my dotspacemacs-additional-packages
duianto
@duianto
remove emacs-htmlize, it isn't needed, htmlize comes with the org layer.
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
@duianto sir, you're a liefe saver it downloading stuff.
Thanks
duianto
@duianto
Was it solved with the --insecure argument?
There's also a dotspacemacs-elpa-https variable in .spacemacs, setting it to nil seems to have worked for some people when --insecure didn't work, at least according to this issue: Unable to install spacemacs 0.105 #4445
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
--insecure started installing packages but lead to Error (use-package): org-projectile :config: Symbol’s function definition is void: org-projectile:per-repo
which i think would be sorted if I update to the latest version of spacemac
duianto
@duianto
@cyberscientist That seems to have been fixed on the develop branch. Error (use-package): org-projectile :config: Symbol’s function definition is void: org-projectile:per-repo #9483
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
Yes, but sadly im on widows so, i'm trying to figure out how to update the branch (I'm not on master it seems)
things are never that easy on windows
duianto
@duianto
I'm on windows as well. It's working fine for me.
If there's a new version then I think the master branch will show an update arrow on the modeline.
But it should probably work to git pull, from the Spacemacs repository while your on the master branch.
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
Sorry I am a little confused, because my emacs is under C:\Users\username\Apps\emacs-25.1-x86_64-w64-mingw32
duianto
@duianto
You can check your current branch, by opening the S-M-; Eval: prompt and typing or copying and pasting (C-y) this command: (spacemacs//git-get-current-branch)
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
thats not a git directory
duianto
@duianto
The default directory where Emacs looks for .emacs.d is: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\.emacs.d
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
if (spacemacs//git-get-current-branch) return nil what does that mean?
duianto
@duianto
It means that an error occurred. What does it say if you call git status in either powershell or cmd from the .emacs.d directory?
Maybe Emacs is unable to see git, you can check it by calling (executable-find "git.exe") from the S-M-; Eval prompt.
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git
can I add remote to the directory?
duianto
@duianto
For me it reports:
"c:/Users/Username/AppData/Local/Programs/Git/cmd/git.exe"
I've installed git from here: https://git-scm.com/download/win
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
I do have git installed, but for some reason when I have installed spacemacs it hasn't downloaded the .git file
duianto
@duianto
Did you just download the github spacemacs .zip and extract it? That's what I did in the beginning before I learned about git.
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
yes
duianto
@duianto
If you clone the repository then you'll get the .git directory. I'm not sure if it can be added to the extracted .emacs.ddirectory.
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
would spacemac still work if I rename .emacs.d then clone the latest master of spacemacs (in .emacs.d diercotry) ?
duianto
@duianto
yes it only looks for exactly .emacs.d
Amos Bird
@amosbird
Hmm, I wonder if there is a way to mark files in different dired buffers
cyberscientist
@cyberscientist
@duianto thanks for your help man, it all worked like magic
this is my fourth attempt at learning spacemacs (and VIM)

I'm trying to add a keybinding with (kbd "SPC-;") but it gets interpreted as the separate keys S, P, etc and produces the error global-set-key: Key sequence S P C - ; starts with non-prefix key S. What is the correct way to map something starting with SPC?
Keyboard Love ⌨️❤️
@kbdluv
@kbdluv_twitter posted to emacs.SE in case anyone's up for some karma =)
duianto
@duianto
@kbdluv Try this: (spacemacs/set-leader-keys ";" 'function-name-here)

Hey guys, this is kinda a dumb question but a quickie. Is there a keyboard shortcut to schedule a TODO in the Date Hour:Minute fomat? When press SPC m s I can schedule the date of the TODO, but it does not set the time. I have to then navigate to the actual TODO property and manually add the Hour:Minute. Was not sure if there was a way to do this through a shortcut or something.
Oops, I should mention that i am talking about Orgmode.
duianto
@duianto
@00krishna It seems like it's possible to type the time at the calendar date+time prompt: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19532371/how-to-insert-schedule-with-date-and-time-in-emacs-org-mode
Krishna Bhogaonker
@00krishna
@duianto yeah, I was trying to find this stackexchange post. So I think I am correct that you can't enter the time in the schedule prompt--only the date.
That is what I thought.
