that wikipedia one is a good example of a bad color map
if you make the plot 3d (use the z-axis) then you only need one color, in which case grayscale white to black with linear saturation is the best

@asmeurer the z-axis would plot the abs(f(z)), so you still want to be able to plot arg(f(z)) as a color -- so you would simply plot arg(f(z)) from white to black?

ah I didn’t realize you were plotting abs and arg
so you’d need a color map with a cycle
