    I want to avoid XSLT in frontend
    Wannes Debusschere
    @wdebusschere
    I would say XSLT is much faster to learn then learning to connect Gridsome
    May Kittens Devour Your Soul
    @diomed
    and nothing too complicated. just a normal blog
    Wannes Debusschere
    @wdebusschere
    So why complicated things?
    A blog is one of the easiest things to make with symphony
    If you don't like XSLT, or do not intend to learn it, then symphony is no option..
    May Kittens Devour Your Soul
    @diomed
    isn't using gridsome way around it?
    Wannes Debusschere
    @wdebusschere
    Why would you use symphony then as a backend?
    May Kittens Devour Your Soul
    @diomed
    because it's one of the simplest, most elegant made backends I've ever seen

    @diomed +1 :) - re XSLT what you’re looking for is do-able the problem is I don’t think many here have the time to do what you would like

    @diomed (Late to the party as always but) You could simply copy-of the xml data and then use something else to parse the xml into something that fits your needs !
    I've done it to power some native apps
    the xslt fronend simply copies data
    there are also xslt templates available to convert the xml into json

    Howdy guys, long time no see. Is there a way to change an author account to admin through mysql?
    Nicolas Brassard
    @nitriques
    @moretaste Hi! Yup, just change the role in the db in the tbl_authors table
    Rudy Montoya Rodriguez
    @moretaste
    Ok, that was swift ;-). Thanks @nitriques

    Wannes Debusschere
    @wdebusschere
    no problem
    Manaus
    @Manaus
    Hi guys, I'm back again, the error somehow evolved, http://www.gammaservizi.it/academy/
    Any hint on how to fix this?
    Clicking on the debug buttons I get a MySQL Error (3065): Expression #1 of ORDER BY clause is not in SELECT list, references column 'sometable.p.sortorder' which is not in SELECT list;
    Wannes Debusschere
    @wdebusschere
    @Manaus yes you should find it in your debug
    The error in the debug is probably because your mysql mode is strict
    Which field it this?
    You can change the mysql mode or change the query
    Manaus
    @Manaus
    Can't say the field, the error pops up in the debug xml view
    Wannes Debusschere
    @wdebusschere
    ok, try to change the mysql mode
    Manaus
    @Manaus
    Thanks

    where is log?
    A severe error occurred whilst trying to handle an exception, check the Symphony log for more details
    Use of undefined constant SYMPHONY_URL - assumed 'SYMPHONY_URL' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) on 338 of file C:\laragon\www\symphony\symphony\lib\core\class.errorhandler.php

    @Sahasrahla
    Hello folks! I was going to post on the Symphony forums for help, but was directed here to make an account...
    Sahasrahla
    @Sahasrahla
    The problem I'm seeking help on might have a simple answer, so I'll ask: I inherited a Symphony 2.2.1 site (like, given a .zip file with the file contents and a .sql database dump), but I'm having trouble getting it to run on my cPanel server. I believe the crux of my problem is that 2.2.1 only supports UP TO PHP 5.3 and my cPanel server starts at 5.4. The first version of Symphony I find with PHP 5.4 support seems to be v2.4.
    So my questions specifically: does my assessment seem correct, and 2) is there a specific upgrade path from 2.2.1 to 2.4 and beyond?
    Tilo Schröder
    @tiloschroeder

    Hi @Sahasrahla, yes, due to high spam ratio, registrations on the Symphony forum has been closed and switched to Gitter.

    For your issue: It's not about the Symphony and PHP version only, it's also about the installed extensions.

    So make a sheet with all installed extionsions and figure out, what is the current version of the extension and – thats important – exists the extionsion for Symphony yet.

    The current 2.x version of Symphony is 2.7.7 and it's a LTS version.

    You can find an overview of the supported extensions here:
    http://symphonyextensions.com

    Sahasrahla
    @Sahasrahla
    @tiloschroeder You're absolutely right, thank you. I've gotten the site upgraded to Symphony 2.4 and disabled all the plugins manually in the database sym_extensions table. I am now able to log into the admin center. Some of the plugins have 2.3/2.4 compatible versions, but several don't. Is it possible to manually uninstall an Extension that is incompatible with the currently installed version of Symphony?
    Sahasrahla
    @Sahasrahla
    I suppose the most straight-forward answer would be to get the site running in Symphony 2.2.1, and uninstall the extensions there before upgrading. The problem is that Symphony 2.4 is the first version I found is compatible with php5.4
    Sahasrahla
    @Sahasrahla
    seomanager and youtube_videos are the old extensions that seem to be giving me all the trouble, but even with those disabled (manually via manipulating sym_extensions table), any page load still gives an error like "Symphony Fatal Error: Could not find Event seomanager_get_rule. If it was provided by an Extension, ensure that it is installed, and enabled."
    Nicolas Brassard
    @nitriques
    @Sahasrahla you can manually edit the tbl_pages to remove the event from the pages, so it should load
    Sahasrahla
    @Sahasrahla
    Oh, awesome! I think that was the hint I was looking for. Thanks for the nudge!
    Nicolas Brassard
    @nitriques
    :+1:
    Sahasrahla
    @Sahasrahla
    @nitriques That absolutely did the trick. I was able to scrub seomanager and youtube_videos from the pages table and now the site works. I'm having one last minor issue with order_entries but only in the admin section. The public facing website seems to be working great. Thanks again for the help!
