    @/all An application requires you to have made a PR to the TARDIS project. All projects have applicants so you can choose whichever you want.

    @centarsirius
    hello everyone, I am Sachin Venkatesh, a 2nd year B.Tech (engineering physics) student aiming to get into research in physics. I have relevant knowledge in astronomy and astrophysics, formal general relativity, mathematical physics. I am actively contributing to a gov org in the field of radio astronomy and adaptive optics. I also have intermediate experience in python leaning more towards the data analysis field using numpy, scikit, astropy, pandas, matplotlib for working in radio astronomy. But my main forte is Physics and i would be glad to know the ways i could help in the projects or ideas of Tardis for GSOC. I have recently started working on machine learning too through project based courses.

    Hello @Chamodya-ka . Welcome to the community :) As you have already selected the project, start by making a PR of the first objective. Also, draft your proposal soon as only few days of the application period are left. All the best for your job

    Salutations! My name is Rishabh Karmakar and I wish to contribute to The Tardis Project - "Visualizing TARDIS flow through a graph". I have gone through the application checklist and completed the Tardis challenge as well as completed the first objective. That being said, I have just shared the draft proposal and would be obliged if any of the mentors could comment on it and guide me. Thanks!

    @PIYUSHgoyal16
    @Insoler I am not sure if you have made a PR of your solution to the first objective. Have you?

    Hi everyone, I am Sanjeet, an MSc Computer Science student from Canada. I am interested in contributing to the TARDIS community. I have already setup the TARDIS environment on my system and have submitted the TARDIS intro challenge. I also went through the ideas page and found projects "Quantify-ify TARDIS", "Integration Tests" and "Optimisation with Numba" interesting. I will submit my first objective task asap. Looking forward to working with the TARDIS community!

    Hello, @wkerzendorf I’m Mohini Tripathi, currently pursuing my ug in CSE from BU Jhansi, India. I've prior knowledge in working with ML( NLTK, Tensorflow, Dask), stack-development and git. I've run tardis example, submitted the Intro-Challenge and currently working on submission of PR. I am interested in the Dask framework for parallel execution, will look forward to your further guidance. github.com/mohini-tripathi

    @wkerzendorf

    @/all as we are approaching the deadline and everyone is getting their proposals in: 1) There are example proposals on the website look at them - these were proposals of people that worked with us. 2) Make sure to spell check and grammar check your proposal. 3) Make sure to use a fontsize of 12 (or around there) - for example 16 is way to big. 4) Make sure that you make a link to your PRs [yes - even if they are closed] 5) You can also include links to contributions to other open source projects in your proposals.

    Finally, we can not look at every proposal many times (as there are many proposals). If we already looked over your proposal chances are we can not look again. Make sure to get your proposal in in time. Google is very strict about the time limit and we can only accept student that have a proposal in.

    Good Luck everyone - I hope you all had fun and learned something!

    @mohini-tripathi please follow the checklist

    @wkerzendorf @afloers Please have a look at my application draft and suggest any necessary changes. Should I make any changes to the project objectives themselves? Add more detail to certain parts? Link any stuff that might be missing?

    dfq category is dask one, right?
    Debjoy Saha
    @Debjoy10
    @Phantsure dfq is for quantify-ify
    Sampark Sharma
    @Phantsure
    What is for dask?
    Debjoy Saha
    @Debjoy10
    I think numba+dask optimisations are merged in numba.
    Sampark Sharma
    @Phantsure
    Wait. So they are different projects, na?
    Debjoy Saha
    @Debjoy10
    Yes, they are supposed to be, like the ideas list mentions. The category for dask specified is dask.
    Sampark Sharma
    @Phantsure
    There should be dask as category but there isn't
    @wkerzendorf some help here
    For now, i have put my proposal in numba category. Any feedback is welcome. Sorry for being late.
    Wolfgang Kerzendorf
    @wkerzendorf
    @magdalena-b please start your Application ASAP
    @Phantsure it doesn’t really matter - numba is fine.
    @Debjoy10 nope they are not really

    Hi. In the Carsus documentation, under converting CMFGEN database to HDF5 it's mentioned that converting photoionization cross-sections is very slow. Why is it so?
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    epassaro Because photoionization files contains hundreds of small tables and the parser is written in pure Python.
