@technoboy10 Why not make it so people can run crossorigin instances that all connect to a main server, then have the main server just load balance to the connected ones? then volunteers could host to help with the computer fires :P
Like some people have extra bandwidth and servers :P but not extra money to donate

That's a humongous security risk
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:07
Yeah, I guess people could hyjack the requests :/
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:07
The proxy by definition MITMs every single request, people just trust that I don't have malicious intent.
Really, the solution is for people to stop using the thing in prod :p

It makes no sense
He asyncly loads files...
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:09
I've half a mind to artificially slow load that kind of thing
it's already so slow though haha
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:10
Does cloudflare act as a cdn for crossorigin?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:10
technically?
I cache the heck out of every request I can
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:12
Then why does just loading the root take so long (http://crossorigin.me/)? It took 14 seconds for me to curl it...
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:14
My server is not fast enough
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:14
Oh are you no longer on a bunch of digital ocean vpses?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:14
nope, I have a single server but it has 12gb of ram and better infrastructure (and it's free)
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:14
Oh are you running it in your dorm?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:19
No, but a local ISP has given me free space
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:19
Oh thats cool
What is the server model you are running? I am guessing a 2950 or a r710
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:20

Oct 20 2017 23:20

Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:20
Oh, thats cool
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:27
But dang 500m requests is a lot
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:27

Hampton
@herohamp

Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:38
Oh, weird!
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:38
Also 5*3 + 2*x != 10....
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:39
patreon takes a cut

Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:39

Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:39

Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:42
Is that how bad the vps your ISP gives you is?
I guess 500m requests is not nothing :P
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:42
No, it's just Too Many Requests Always™
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:44
I was going to say maybe see if your college would offer you some rack space then maybe use cloudflare load balancing but cloudflare load balancing costs a lot for 500m requests
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:45
yeah it's more than I make in two months

Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:46
What is your real job?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:46
Web developer at a startup! :)
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:47
Oh cool, I thought you were working at LLK?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:47
That was a few summers ago
I actually live pretty far from Boston, so it's hard for me to afford working there (and make money for tuition haha)
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:48
Oh xD
What college do you go to?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:48
CU Boulder!
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:49
Oh cool
My parents expect me to know what college I want to go to now... I'm 14... So I am slowly trying to figure out what colleges people are going to and looking into them
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:50
I wouldn't necessarily recommend going here for CS
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:50
I assume you are there for CS right?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:50
yeah
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:52
If you don't recommend it for CS then why are you attending?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:52
Well it's very inexpensive since I live in state
also I'm a third year so it's a bit too late to transfer:P
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:53
Ok, thats what I thought you would say, if I can ask whats the startup you work at?
Connor Hudson
@technoboy10
Oct 20 2017 23:53
would rather not say at the moment, it's a fairly new one so we don't want too much traffic yet
Hampton
@herohamp
Oct 20 2017 23:54
Ok :ok_hand:
