Hey!
Andrew Nguyen
@onlyandrewn

@chrishutchinson
Read the documentation, but I had a few questions:

  • If I want to turn off the color picker and just have the option that the theme selects as the default, what do I put in editable.fill instead of "picker"

  • I'm using TypeKit to replace the default fonts, wondering where I would specify font weight

You can remove (or comment out) the fill property from the editable object. You can also change the default point to a different theme option if you want to set that separately.
You can add 'fontWeight' to the object in the controller similar to how fontSize is defined, e.g., "fontWeight: 'bold'"
Andrew Nguyen
@onlyandrewn
@sarahjsquire In scripts/controllers/main.js, I tried 'fontWeight': 700, and alternatively 'fontWeight': 'bold' but that hasn't seemed to change the appearance of the Typekit font

Hi i'm sorry for the last two pull requests i've added - we're working on our own fork and i keep on hitting open pull request when the base fork is the times one.
Chris Hutchinson
@chrishutchinson
@radiodario Not a problem! I hope it's all working out for you - it'd be good to know if you've had any major issues or had to fix any glaring problems so we can work on contributing them back to the core for future versions

Sorry if I'm doing wrong to ask it here. I'm totally new in Node and Grunt. But I'm trying to put this script in heroku and I can not because I have not a procfile.

How do you access a property of another element? I'm trying to get the y value of the headline, but my angular chops are severely lacking
Ændrew Rininsland
@aendrew
@garrettjohnson angular.element() works like jQuery (jQuery Lite to be accurate, though if jQuery itself is available, it uses that instead); you could do angular.element('text[name=Headline]').attr('y').

Hi folks, thanks for creating Cardkit. I've created a fork for our University's newsroom. I'm having an issue with the color fill input fields showing the functions rather than the results of the functions. Once I pick a color, it seems to snap back into place and display the hex color. Has anybody run into this issue before or could point me in the right direction? It can be seen here: http://vancetran.com/memekit/ Thanks again!
Looks like my build of that breaks the color picker, but you can see the same problem I see in my dev environment. Source is here: https://github.com/vancetran/memekit/

Guys, I'm brand new to cardkit community. I'm looking for the simplest possible version to use. I'm inclined to use @vancetran 's version, any other forks you'd recommend?
Chris Hutchinson
@chrishutchinson
Hey @dttg, hopefully the main version should be good enough for you! What specific functionality are you looking for that's not there at present?
Diego
@dttg
Actually, I'm looking to build a very easy to use version, with 5-10 beautiful templates for my website
i have a content marketing blog in brazil
we have 300k uniques month, and these guys are very active on social
I'm loving for a simple way to give them a tool for looking well on social
My favorite tool right now (from a usability standpoint) is buffer's pablo
Diego
@dttg
The main problem is lack of templates ;)
Ændrew Rininsland
@aendrew
@dttg It's super simple to make your own themes; just edit app/themes.config.jsonhttps://github.com/times/cardkit/blob/master/app/themes.config.json
The idea is you fork it and add your own.
To b64 encode your images ("logoSrc" and "logoSecondarySrc"), use https://www.base64-image.de
Replace the bit after base64, with the first field ("Base64 string"). Everything else should be fairly self-explanitory.
Chris Hutchinson
@chrishutchinson
@dttg: Yep, as @aendrew said. CardKit is built to be forked and configured as you need. There's a simple configuration object so you can add your own elements to the card – say for example: 3 text areas and 2 image uploads, one of which is draggable, and the theming layer allows you to provide multiple colour / image / font variants on your layout.
As you build your configuration object, the editor will automatically build to match, providing all the fields you need to create your cards.

@aendrew @chrishutchinson this is cool guys, thx for the explanation

Hey @/all - I've just pushed v1.1.0 that brings some new features for simpler configuration, see https://github.com/times/cardkit/releases/tag/v1.1.0 for details

Hey All,

I've came across "Card Kit" via google, and I have little to working knowledge on website hosting and Javascript. The most I've done is administer a few Wordpress and Joomla Sites...

Really stupid question? But how do I go about installing this application on my own hosting account? Is it a simply unzipping of the Source Code?

Chris Hutchinson
@chrishutchinson

Hey @/all - Today we launched CardKit 2, which is now available on our GitHub account at https://github.com/times/cardkit! This release brings:

  • a full ground-up rewrite into a library structure. No more fork + rebuild, now install via npm and call new CardKit()
  • two built in renderers, a DOM renderer (for browser environments), and a server renderer (for Node.js environments)
  • new features to make it easier to build your configuration
  • a Yeoman generator to get you up-and-running faster (times/generator-cardkit)

A demo can more can be found on our GitHub pages: https://times.github.io/cardkit/

Of course, as ever, if you have questions or queries, flag them in here or log issues on the GitHub repo!

Hi @chrishutchinson ! Thank you for your amazing work.
I have a couple if questions. Could you please give any hints? The first an foremost question is: how to get started with an own UI? Could you please give me some guideance?
Second: is there any possibility to attach a style attribute to an text layer/element?
