@halvves
@blainesch i'm fairly new to electron... so pardon me if this is a dumb question, but is there a way to hook into any of electron's methods from inside a zazu plugin... is electron exposed at all with how you have everything setup?
halvves
@halvves
i've read in the zazu docs that there are some electron methods exposed on pluginContext but is that only those select ones?
Baylee
@bayleedev
@halvves yes you can only use the methods expoded from the pluginContext.
If you need additional electron methods we should either expose them at pluginContext or you could require electron as a package dependency, but that could be a little heavy.
@elchami89_twitter that’s awesome!
halvves
@halvves
@blainesch ok cool. I might work to get two more exposed there... I'm trying to come up with a cross platform color picker for zazu-colors instead of just my current osx 'choose color' hack.
Baylee
@bayleedev
Is there something specific you can’t do cross platform right now?
Baylee
@bayleedev

Has everybody seen the new theme that was posted? It’s called Simple Theme, and it’s beautiful.

Getting ready for the v0.5.0 release!! :D

@boylea
I've just installed zazu, none of the default plugins seem to work except google? no clipboard, filesystem, or caculator
Interestingly though, I added amjith/zazu-mac-vpn, and that works
halvves
@halvves
@blainesch saw the v0.5.0 release! looks like "Check for Updates" from inside of zazu doesn't see it though. I know I can just install manually, but I figured I'd let you know for UX purposes that the check for updates isn't recognizing the new release.
Baylee
@bayleedev
@halvves I haven’t published the update, since it’s a large update I was going to have a few people install it for a few days first.
halvves
@halvves
@blainesch ah. that makes sense. sorry for the false alarm
Baylee
@bayleedev
No worries, I’m starting v0.5.1 now and I’ll publish that today.
Baylee
@bayleedev
Just released v0.5.2 of Zazu to fix an error some users were getting with the screen module.
Baylee
@bayleedev
Probably should have added the pull request number in there.
Amjith Ramanujam
@amjith
No I think changelog is designed for general public. People who don’t know what a “github” means. :)
So keeping the description user facing is preferable.
Baylee
@bayleedev
Nice v0.5 is already the most popular version! Go Zazu users for quick upgrades!

Hi
Tom Faulkner
@TomFaulkner
I'm on version 5.2, on Win 10. When I alt-space or toggle zazu to make the window visible, it's a white window with nothing in it. It acts as it should in losing focus and disappearing, and alt-space to toggle away. But, there is never anything drawn. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted pc as well.
App Environment: production
App Version: 0.5.2
Electron Version: 1.3.14
Node Version: 6.5.0
Chrome Version: 52.0.2743.82
Baylee
@bayleedev
@TomFaulkner can you submit your log file to an issue on github?
@mahdix hi!
Tom Faulkner
@TomFaulkner
@blainesch I will.
Tom Faulkner
@TomFaulkner
@blainesch Issue is filed.
Baylee
@bayleedev
Thank you!
Tom Faulkner
@TomFaulkner
@blainesch Is all config and data Zazu has stored in ~/.zazu on Windows?
Baylee
@bayleedev
Yes
Tom Faulkner
@TomFaulkner
I'll try to unisntall then delete that and reinstall then.
That seems to have taken care of it.
Baylee
@bayleedev
Nice :D
Unfortuntely this is a common problem with issues related to npm install that is hard to detect. We could possibly try and slow it down and only npm install one plugin at a time… or possibly have a Wipe Zazu Data button that does what you just did.

Hi TTT, I'm working on some alternative fallback search options for a project I'm working on NHSbuntu. I've initially gone for the super-easy option of simply forking tinytacoteam/zazu-fallback and essentially over-riding some of the searches , and adding my own. Ideally I'd like this to play nicely with the main zazu-fallback repo. I've looked at the other search plugins, but these all seem to use API searches. I live in the UK NHS (National Health Service) and we are essentially 'pre-API' in terms of technology, all searches are done vie query string on the URL. Any advice?
Baylee
@bayleedev
I think it’ll play nicely all by itself. Is there an issue you were running into when you had them both installed?
cc @pacharanero

@pacharanero
@blainesch I had kind of assumed that there could only be one 'fallback' and that if two were installed they would in some way clash.... turns out my assumption was wrong! I've installed both zazu-fallback and zazu-nhsbuntu and they seem to both work.
I think there may be a other people who would want to build little 'suites' of custom searches like I did, in which case it might be helpful to make it clear in the README.md that it's possible to install more than one 'fallback'. Or perhaps have a 'custom search suite template' repo that people can fork and customise.
I've gotta say, though - awesome work on Zazu, and also for the neat way Zazu pulls in plugins from GitHub
Baylee
@bayleedev

@pacharanero if you are okay with copy/pasta you could just define your custom searches in the zazu config:

https://github.com/tinytacoteam/zazu-fallback#installing

Marcus Baw
@pacharanero
yes, I'm aware of that neat feature, but because we want to be able to redistribute the custom searches to non-technical users we need a plugin
we're building a custom Ubuntu distro for NHS (National Health Service) workers
so we can package Zazu in that. (we'll have to create a PPA for it I think)
Baylee
@bayleedev
Oh wow, that’s awesome to hear :D
