Dropbox turned of V1 API today.
Ali Karbassi
@karbassi
@mpcjanssen what does that mean for your app?
Mark Janssen
@mpcjanssen
@karbassi I updated it to support API v2
(reluctantly)
Mark Janssen
@mpcjanssen
@karbassi the migration was not trivial, but all the dropbox v2 related handling in Simpletask is in the file: https://github.com/mpcjanssen/simpletask-android/blob/master/app/src/dropbox/java/nl/mpcjanssen/simpletask/remote/FileStore.kt
Ali Karbassi
@karbassi
@mpcjanssen would you be willing to help upgrade the todo.txt-android project's from v1 to v2? https://github.com/todotxt/todo.txt-android/tree/master/src/com/todotxt/todotxttouch/remote
Mark Janssen
@mpcjanssen
@karbassi I would, but besides updating simpletask I really don't have time to do this.
Ali Karbassi
@karbassi
@mpcjanssen I fully understand!
Mark Janssen
@mpcjanssen
And I don't remember how wel localized the dropbox code is in todotxt
It should not be hard
Authentication is a bit tricky

@karbassi
I have no android experience, tbh
Know any android devs who might want to help out? Specially since it's hacktoberfest right now
Mark Janssen
@mpcjanssen
I think if PRs start to be merged again there are plenty of people who can do it, but who now hesitate because the project seems stale
Only problem is that merging PRs will still result in a non-functioning app at the moment.
Ali Karbassi
@karbassi
@mpcjanssen all valid concerns. I agree that there needs to be a champion for the android project.
@ginatrapani Could you tweet out that we're looking for 1 or 2 maintainers for the Android project?

anyone familiar with this error?

@ilzichio
Hi. Is it possible to not show summary in the end then I run todo.sh ls?
I mean this:
--
TODO: 14 of 14 tasks shown
Frans Jaspers
@Fransz
@ilzichio try:
todo.sh ls | head -n-2

Any way to colorize tags?

@dimonomid
Hi. First of all, thanks a lot for your work on that awesome tool, it makes my life better. The only feature I desperately miss right now is to be able to add and prioritize an item as a single (and preferably simple) command. Ideally I want to have commands like aa (add and prioritize as A), ab (add and prioritize as B), ac, etc. Is that possible?
so when I want to add an A item, it would be t aa Do this and that
PaulMansfieldVibepay
@PaulMansfieldVibepay
@dimonomid Sounds like you need to start looking at addons have a look here https://github.com/todotxt/todo.txt-cli/wiki/Todo.sh-Add-on-Directory#add-and-do--add-and-pri-in-one-step for Ginas adda to add with priority (A). Also sounds like you are being tripped up by bash and (A), just quote the item including the priority t add "(A) Do this and that"
PaulMansfieldVibepay
@PaulMansfieldVibepay
@coteyr I use a version of the final filter documented on the mailing list https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/todotxt/conversations/messages/5101
Ingo Karkat
@inkarkat
@dimonomid My addpri action takes the priority as the first argument; you could build your own aa, ab, ... actions on it: https://github.com/inkarkat/todo.txt-cli-ex/blob/master/actions/addpri

Thanks guys!

Is there a newer iteration of todotxt? A lot of projects don't seem to have updates since ~2017. I know Postlight said they'd work on mobile apps and that fell through.

@jtpereyda I'm experiencing the same thing

I have just install todo.txt-cli but when i run todo.sh add todo.sh add "THING I NEED TO DO +project @context" it gives me this error Fatal Error: Cannot read configuration file /home/sachinmukherjee/.todo/config. Why this is happening?
Jefferson Ferreira-Ferreira
@jecogeo
Hi All. My Arch Linux package manager (yay, in this case) keeps todotxt in the list of outdated packages, even when its up to date. Any thoughts?
maco1717
@maco1717
I am wondering if there is any easy way of configuring todo.txt-cli to add the time on the creation and completion date?
Paul Mansfield
@the1ts
@maco1717 if you add export TODOTXT_DATE_ON_ADD=1 to your todo.cfg file it will add date at start of todo item. I think when you run todo.sh do $item_number it puts in the date "done" in the done.txt file already. So you have "x 2020-01-27 2020-01-26 test item" showing 26th when I created and 27th when I completed the item I labelled as test item
maco1717
@maco1717
Thanks. I meant Time, not just date.

Jeremy Schroeder
@jeresch
Hi all, I'm wondering, is this repository still maintained? I'm noticing that the last commits to master were several years ago. For my workflow and an addon I want to make, I'm hoping to change the behavior of archive slightly so it respects TODOTXT_PRESERVE_LINE_NUMBERS where possible. I'm wondering if it's worth it to open an issue and PR, or if it would be better to instead just use my own fork of the script? Thanks.
Ingo Karkat
@inkarkat
Hello @jeresch, yes, it's been a bit quiet around todo.txt-cli, as it's a quite stable app. I haven't heard much from @karbassi, but he's still active in GitHub. I try to answer any issues and pull requests that show up.
Regarding your change of archive, incompatible changes are unlikely to be accepted. But you can easily overload any default behavior with a custom add-on, so why don't you try that out, potentially share that add-on, and if a lot of users like that, it may finally be included in the main app. I wonder though that the todo.txt file would grow all the time if archiving doesn't strip empty lines, doesn't it?
Jeremy Schroeder
@jeresch
Yes, I think it would grow. That makes sense, thanks. I think I'll implement it with just an extra colon key/value tag and an overloaded add, addm, and addto to add the tag automatically. I really just need a unique key/identifier for each task item to implement blockers and dependencies. I was hoping that could be the line number, but it's probably easier with just a new piece of slightly redundant metadata.
Ingo Karkat
@inkarkat
Using a separate marker is easier. Alternatively, if you want to directly use line numbers, you need to overload archive and adapt all line number references as preceding lines are removed (and ensure through configuration that other actions like deldo not remove lines). Actually, I've implemented such a scheme as part of my todo.txt customizations (https://github.com/inkarkat/todo.txt-cli-ex); there's a dedicated defragment action that is invoked by a custom archive . Dependencies are marked via w:42; you can check out the test (https://github.com/inkarkat/todo.txt-cli-ex/blob/master/tests/t2090-dependency-workflow.sh) for an overview of the dependency workflow. I cannot wholeheartedly recommend that you just take my customizations - they reflect my own idiosyncratic view, but feel free to use it, maybe just bits and pieces, or maybe decide that it's all too complex and instead use a simple implementation with custom markers...
Jeremy Schroeder
@jeresch
Thanks for taking the time to write that out, I'll definitely take a look!

Hi all - bit of a noob question about installing on Ubuntu. I go into the directory and type make but I get the error "make: * No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."
I just have the three files in that folder: todo.cfg todo_completion todo.sh
Paul Mansfield
@the1ts
@Primal_Buddhist_twitter in debian, todo.txt-cli is a packaged application, last I checked (Ubuntu 18.04-LTS) it was also in Ubuntu.
