hey y'all, i've been trying to use bootstrap to position a couple of very basic elements, and for some reason my background img is overridden by white space
can't figure out why things are looking so jacked

hey all, got a weird question. Here's my repo, https://github.com/cjrutherford/VIMS and it appears that the CSS I'm writing isn't overriding the class CSS from bs

Im using bootstrap and FA to use the eye for showing a password.
<div class="form-group has-feedback">
      <div class="input-group">
            <span class="input-group-addon"><ng2-fa name="lock"></ng2-fa></span>
            <input type="password" class="form-control left-border-none" formControlName="password" placeholder="Password">
           <span class="form-control-feedback"><ng2-fa name="eye"></ng2-fa></span>
      </div>
</div>

@milanvdmria looks like you're also using a bit of angular (or at least that's what I think of when I see the ng tag anywhere)
milanvdmria
@milanvdmria
Feb 21 2017 20:27
@cjrutherford Yes, but the ng tag is just for adding the icon. I assume as it is still between the span tags it shouldnt matter.
But I could be wrong

@milanvdmria I've always seen it called from the class field of the span tag <span class='fa fa-eye'></span>
milanvdmria
@milanvdmria
Feb 21 2017 20:28
mmm
Then Ill have to restructured my project if the tag is an issue
Chris Rutherford
@cjrutherford
Feb 21 2017 20:29
nope, just add the classes to your span tag and remove the <ng2-fa> tag
do you have this in a pen?
milanvdmria
@milanvdmria
Feb 21 2017 20:30
No, but the ng2 tag makes it possible to use FA, otherwise I cannot reference it.

oh, so you're not linking to the font awesome library? Mind if I take a look?

@cjrutherford I changed it to <span class="fa fa-eye form-control-feedback"> and it still works so :) But the problem stays the same.
Eumh, I only have a local copy, I can push it to git if you want to?

ah.....sure, send me the repo link, and I'll look at it, mind if I ask you about your setup? (ex. build system, tools used, etc.?)
I'm guessing you're doing something like this:

and when you click the eye, it shows the password? this could be done with a bit of javascript.

Yup, I havent gotten to the JS part but thats not too bad. Im quite unexperienced with CSS so that is always the main problem.

This should work with your password box, but it needs jquery.
$('.fa-eye').click(function(){
    if($('#IDofPWbox').attr('type') === 'password'){
        $('#IDofPWbox').setAttribute('type','text');
    } else{
        $('#IDofPWbox').setAttribute('type','password');
    }
}
@milanvdmria what is the actual problem with it?

@milanvdmria Ah that is an eyesore.... no pun intended let me look at your code again.
@milanvdmria think you might need the input-addon class in the second span as well....
