@SethTisue If LightBend cannot run community builds without disabling features, perhaps it is time that another organisation that is capable should take over?
Seth Tisue
@SethTisue
Mar 15 2016 01:16
if somebody/anybody stepped up and started doing their own community builds or similar, Scala.js-focused or otherwise, that would be fantastic. more testing = more regressions caught

Cool! So that's where the Scala Center's money should go, right?
Seth Tisue
@SethTisue
Mar 15 2016 01:44
I dunno. someone could suggest it to them and they’ll weigh it against everything else they could be doing, I guess. in the announcement, it sounded to me like Scala.js support was something they hoped to tackle in the future, not something they’re ready to start on right away. but you’d have to ask them

If we're deciding what Scala Center should do with its money, I'd like a less broken Scaladoc, please. :smile:

@travisbrown Aye. I haven’t managed to get any of that @group stuff working yet ;)

Mar 15 2016 02:52
It's just so ludicrously inadequate that I don't put much effort into it. The way I write programs basically nothing of interest shows up in a useful way.
So yeah I'd like to see something new.
@travisbrown Scala Center is hiring so you could get paid to fix it!

@SethTisue @tpolecat which shapeless versions are built in the community build currently?
@InTheNow this is a Good Thing.

@milessabin it looks like it's just building master
if i understand the config, which i may not https://github.com/scala/community-builds/blob/2.12.x/common.conf#L70

phew I've basically rewritten all the ENSIME Emacs documentation. If you've been putting it off and would like to give it a try, now is the time! http://ensime.github.io/editors/emacs/
the Contributing page is now also padded out with basically everything that I repeat at every hack day

we have a huge dependency graph problem, I'd like to trim it down. i.e. remove the akkasphere

when are we getting the stickers printed?
I want a mug for my office :-P
Miles Sabin

@tpolecat had some printed for the Philly Summit.
We should have more for Oslo.
A TL mug would be good :-)

Ok, when the US starts to wake up I'll type out some thoughts on changing the way Typelevel presents itself. (Simple example: remove the "Experimental" bit on the Cats home page.)
Miles Sabin
@milessabin
Mar 15 2016 10:07
I think that in particular might as well be a PR against Cats straight away.
There's no reason why the discussion about whether that's the right label for Cats or not shouldn't happen on a PR removing it.
I'm sure there are other things which it would be more appropriate to discuss here.

@milessabin yes, all three community builds track Shapeless master
Miles Sabin
@milessabin
Mar 15 2016 11:45
Is there really nothing in there which has a dependency on 2.2.5?
Ghost
@ghost~540393fe163965c9bc2018ce
Mar 15 2016 11:46
ensime does
but it would appear it works off master
Miles Sabin
@milessabin
Mar 15 2016 11:46
Interesting. Strictly speaking there's no guarantee of bincompat between 2.2.5 and 2.3.0.
Seth Tisue
@SethTisue
Mar 15 2016 11:47
everything is built from source, so bincompat is irrelevant, it’s source compatibility that matters
Ghost

Mar 15 2016 11:47
(ensime master uses shapeless 2.3 but the ensime version in the community build is quite old)
Seth Tisue
@SethTisue
Mar 15 2016 11:49
I had to tweak things here and there to make it work, e.g. I had to fork specs2 and make a few tweaks to make it work with Shapeless master
Miles Sabin
@milessabin
Mar 15 2016 11:51
Gotcha. I don't dispute that this is useful, but you are testing a configuration which nobody else uses.
At least it proves that if there is real world breakage then it's fixable.
That is nice to know.
Seth Tisue
@SethTisue
Mar 15 2016 11:53

you are testing a configuration which nobody else uses

indeed, but there’s no other way for us to test binary-incompatible changes to the compiler on all these projects. for us, that’s the focus.
