@slieggi ma'am can you what we do if anything is required
Good to hear. I don't think there is anything else required from your side. Thanks!
Ok ma'am and sorry for missing words -tell me*
hi everyone, im manish meshram. i want to prepare for the gsco2020. can anyone help me out?
hi everyone , I Akshat Jain electronics undergraduate , I am an absolute beginner , can anyone please guide!
Hey, I am Tamoghna , currently in 2nd year of my B.tech. I am an absolute beginner and want to prepare for GSoC 2020. Can anybody help me how should i get started. Kindly let me know if there is OS constrain for this project. Also guide me how should i build my workspace
Hi students! sorry we are not actively monitoring this feed at the moment because it is mainly used once we have been confirmed as a GSoC mentor org each year. If you look at our 2019 idea page https://github.com/uccross/uccross.github.io/blob/master/gsoc19.md -- see if there are any projects you think are interesting. If you do see something there that strikes you I would suggest either reaching out to the mentor directly or add a note here indicating what you preference is and give a bit of background on yourself.
Hey i am new to this project. I want to know that do we have to write readme files for several projects in this organizations!
Hi I am Gurkirat Singh , A 1st year CSE undergrad at IIIT Hyderabad, I am aiminng for GSOC 2020,I am intrested in your gsoc 2019 project to" Extend current aggregations to include sort/groupby for database partitions" in the section programable databases . I am really good in c++,c,python. Any guidance for me
Hi Gurkirat, thanks for your inquiry. Please take a look first at the previous gsoc student report related to this project here. That project added column oriented data processing, using Apache Arrow format. We also have row oriented data in Google Flatbuffers format. Adding sorts and aggregates will include modifying the process methods to store intermediate results for the rows such as in a hash table, that you can build and aggregate into, then sort by a particular column before returning from the function. uccross/skyhookdm-ceph#23 is our github issue for this task.
Thanku Jeff LeFevre for your reply, I am going through the report and will back to you as soon as i am done
I have no knowledge about Apache Arrow format , any resources you suggest me to learn that would be helpful
We have a short description of Arrow from their website as well as some specific things we use on our Arrow wiki page
Hi, I am Mukesh. I want to contribute for Popper (Action Library) for the upcoming Gsoc 2020. But github link is not opening. can someone share the correct link ?
Hi @MUKESHSIHAG, welcome! We have a 2020 GSoC page now with project ideas for this year http://uccross.github.io/gsoc20 . We are still updating it and putting more information for each project. We'll announce here when we make those changes. In the case of Popper, it has some
@ivotron Thanks, If any python related project is uploaded than please announce that here.
Hi everyone! I'd love to participate in GSoC 2020 with this organization. I'd love to start contributing but I may need a bit of guidance because I'm relatively new to Open Source
Hello everyone! I am Toshali. I am looking forward to participate in GSoC 2020 and add support for the Podman Engine.
Any ideas or suggestions for getting started though?
Hi, Everyone! I'd love to participate in GSoC 2020 with this organization.
@ivotron I hope there are Python related project that i could contribute as a Novice :D
something I forgot to mention is that participating organizations have not been announced yet. We plan to apply, and the list of project ideas we posted above is what we would like to propose as GSoC'2020 projects (plus other ideas that students might come up with), but we (CROSS) need to be officially accepted first. See here for the timeline: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/how-it-works/#timeline
with that said: feel free to start exploring the list of ideas and ask any questions you might have. If you are interested in any of the projects listed under Popper, we recommend you join https://gitter.im/falsifiable-us/popper
Hi @jlefevre I am a final year undergrad student from IIT Kharagpur and was interested in one of the projects "Database statistics collection on partitioned data" for GSoC 2020. I wanted to know if there is any kind of documentation available to know what statistics collection methods need to be implemented or if you can brief me about it. Also, if you could help me with the part of code that might look into to get a good understanding about how to go ahead with the project. Thank you in advance!
Hello Everyone i'm virendra patankar , and i would like to work on the project for contribute in opensource organization .
Hi, I am Aniket, a 2nd-year undergraduate student in Computer Science (B.Tech). I am quite interested in the Workflow Viewer and Editor project of Popper. This project caught my eye as it blends with my skills in web development and UI design. I would love to contribute and am currently studying the repository. I would appreciate some help for a better and quick understanding. Thank you in anticipation!
Hi! We are looking for an undergraduate student who could contribute to our project CAvSAT. This project focuses on building a system to solve a problem in databases, namely, consistent query answering. Find more at http://uccross.github.io/gsoc20.
Hi! I am Manas Mangaonkar i was looking at the ideas list and the "Add support for additional container engines" looks interesting to me because of containerization. I am a Third year CSE student at the University of Mumbai, Successfully Completed Gsoc 2019 with Fedora, have been a foss contributor since summer 18. Proficient with Python,Bash and Go. would love some more info on the project/idea.
Thank you @ivotron for pointing to the good firsts issues.I'll check them out and get back asap.
Hello all -- thanks for all your interest in CROSS. I wanted to let you know that we did not get picked as a mentor organization this year. The competition is tough so it was bound to happen one year -- but we are pretty disappointed. That said, we are collaborating with a number of organizations that have been accepted this year so we may be able to have them be an umbrella organization for some of our projects. So please stay active and engaged with us -- and we will keep you informed via this channel if we may have the opportunity to participate that way! Also, our projects are all active and will continue to be needing contributors over the summer, so please feel free to keep in contact with any of our mentors whose project you are interested in. And we will definitely be applying again next year!!
Thanks @slieggi ... I'm pretty sad to that CROSS wasn't selected as a mentor organization. I'm still gonna contribute though. The "Add Support for additional container engines" is very interesting to me
@jlefevre is there any other way to contact the UCCROSS team? I want to see and contribute to the projects you have. But I am not interested in GSOC this time.
Can you invite me to other UCCROSS channels or Gitter/IRC?
Hi @srbhr .. I think the best way to contribute to our projects is to contact the project leaders directly. I think they each have their own way of communicating with contributors.
Okay yes. I'm doing that! ^^
Hello everyone! I am Aditi Gupta, a final year computer science undergraduate at NITK Surathkal, Karnataka, India. I will be working on extending SkyhookDM programmable object storage with statistics, sort/aggregate and data compaction functions under the flagship of Google Summer of Code 2020 program. You can take a look at the project abstract here, https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/projects/#6547073815543808. Feel free to hit me up regarding any questions or suggestions regarding the project, I will be more than happy to discuss it! :) I am happy to be a part of the CROSS community and look forward to staying here for longer than just this summer :)
Hi @aditigupta17 Welcome! Looking forward to working with you over the summer!
Welcome @aditigupta17! I will subscribe you to #skyhook at the UC Santa Cruz Systems Research Lab (SRL) Slack where most of the Skyhook-related conversations happen. Watch for an invitation in your email.
