I know, but that's actually the problem with the ruleset. Let's say there's a ko on a 6x6 board that involves the entire board. The only way to win it is to pass. But then the computer passes back when the game is not finished and the result is ???

I won't be able to do much work on it next week but after that I will have a look. I'll also try to finally configure a beefy EC2 instance so that I don't have to run the benchmarks on my laptop anymore.

how do I make Iomrascalai search to populate its ownership statistics?

I tried "genmove $color" but it doesn't work when the game is over (it contains pass pass at the end) since that will give me an error, and to just backtrack two moves feels like a hack

What exactly are you trying to do? You can run it in GoGui with --gfx and it will overlay the statistics (of the previous move) on the board.

Or is the problem that it gets the final score wrong at times?

That's something I've noticed as well.

I'm trying to load an sgf and score it, but the last two moves are pass-pass so it won't actually do any playouts - so there will be no playouts to do statistics on, so it will just assume every stone is alive and report that

since we didn't actually genmove on the previous move

I just hacked around it and deleted one pass and added genmove before calling the ownership

if I didn't delete the pass it would complain that the game is over

Ah yes. I've been thinking of running the search for a while when calculating the score and the dead stones. I just haven't gotten around to implementing it yet.

I finally got around to setting up a AWS EC2 instance. With PR #275 we can even almost use all of the 36 cores of the c4.8xlarge instance type. So maybe it’s finally time to compete in one of the KGS tournaments. :)

OK, I have a plan

I'm thinking of implementing some of the gogui analyze commands like what fuego has

that way the issue of not populating the tree with statistics can be solved

Sounds good! You probably know that there's already one analyze command. Feel free to rename it if you think that it has a weird name.

And you probably also know that there's no reg_genmove yet.

Oh and you may find that the current loadsgf is fairly limited. It supports normal play but board setup may have issues.

I decided to give HuBoard a try: https://huboard.com/ujh/iomrascalai I had the advantage that the isssues are still on Github but it also gives us a nice status board.

So what do you think? Should be participate in this month’s KGS tournament? I’m pretty sure we would come last. I mean it’s 19x19 and GnuGo is much much better still on 19x19. Even when running on a 36 core machine.

You’re probably right. Too bad that there are no other weak entrants. There used to be more entrants years ago and it was a lot of fun.

I’ve nevertheless asked on the computer go mailing list if it’s OK to participate with such a weak bot (IIRC Nick wasn’t too happy about it in the past) and if so if other weaker bots would be willing to participate.

I kind of forgot where to find this, what's the easiest way to print out the amount of playouts each coordinate has?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean my that statement. Are you referring to how often each child of the root was picked for a playout? Then you just need to print out the plays field of the Node struct.

So, we didn’t come last in yesterday’s tournament: http://www.gokgs.com/tournEntrants.jsp?sort=s&id=1030. And more importantly we now know what is still missing so that we can participate without crashes in the next tournament. Apparently implementing the kgs-chat command causes the crash. I had implemented the command as I assumed it was needed to avoid the crashes. Oh, well. It’s easy enough to fix. :)

what is this wizardry? running iomrascalai by itself gives me the error that it can't find libcaffe.so, but cargo run --release runs fine
