i have been meaning to reach out to you though, there’s a chance that all the crypto stuff will be in JVM runtime, not Haskell

So the plan is to run Unison on the JVM?
Don't feel bad; my motivations have always been selfish - namely to learn more Haskell, and I have been. :)

well, it is not definite, I am doing some prototyping on JVM currently
it looks very promising though

nooooo, not JVM!
EVM - Erlang Virtual Machine would be much better. especially since Erlang is a functional language.
