    so, the citysdk might help which combines stats with geographic shapes/geojson, but if you want just the stats I can share the underlying stats api call for that
    which would you like?
    sorry wrong link sec
    Cameron Banowsky
    @cbanowsky
    Yeah that would be great, I will chart myself. Thank you so much
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    this gets you total population (B01001_001E) males (B01001_002E) and females (B01001_002E) for all zipcodes in the US
    you can find a complete list of variables for ACS 5 (2015 latest vintage) here: http://api.census.gov/data/2015/acs5/variables.html

    @cbanowsky
    @loganpowell how can I use tableau? This is a new program to me. Import json or other?
    Logan
    @logantpowell
    sorry, i didn't mean to add the tableau reference
    but you can use it
    we've done such visualizations before using it
    Cameron Banowsky
    @cbanowsky
    what data files do I need to make something meaningful?
    Logan
    @logantpowell
    please elaborate
    Cameron Banowsky
    @cbanowsky
    I literally just launched app, so i guess what is starting point for a data visualization?
    just generally speaking
    Logan
    @logantpowell
    that's a hard question to answer, it depends on what you want to show and the tools you're using. With Tableau, we've generally seen people converting the json to .csv and then uploading
    with Tableau 10.2 you can also upload shapefiles
    Cameron Banowsky
    @cbanowsky
    ok that’s basically what i needed to know thank you. oh cool. I will get back to work. So much appreciated
    sancao
    @sancao
    hi there!, how can i call api to get KML of zip code five digits (such as: 85001,85002.....)
    Logan
    @logantpowell
    @sancao TigerWeb doesn't provide KML, but you can take the payload and translate it using something like terraformer (terraformer.io) you can also download Census ZIP code tabulation areas here https://www.census.gov/geo/maps-data/data/cbf/cbf_zcta.html

    SC county data, looking for JSON
    can someone point me in the right direction, I'm a bit of a novice
    Logan
    @logantpowell
    Hi @JacobHorne, check out census.gov/developers for documentation overview... we have LOTS of data available at the county level

    @viraj-nimble
    Hi, I want to populate the address within city limit or not. How can i do that with API?
    for i.e. My city is Wenatchee,WA. if i send "820 S. Wenatchee Avenue, Wenatchee, WA 98801" it will give me data or true because it is within city limit, but if i send "2951 Mission Ridge Road, Wenatchee, WA 98801" it should return false. Hope you get an idea what i want.
    viraj-nimble
    @viraj-nimble
    I do not want all the data like Tom Arnold on map, I just want true or false.
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @viraj-nimble I'm not sure I understand your request. If you're looking for a service that can tell you if an address is within a city limit, you'll not be able to find that on the Census side. We have a geocoder, but it will just return the city for an address you submit a query for
    you would have to check if it matches a desired city on your end

    Hi Everyone. Just found this site and was hoping I could get a question answered. I'm looking to display demographic data for the area around a given address. Is this possible with the citysdk ?

    Shawn Choleva
    @ShawnCholeva
    Hey all, I am looking to get historical population data per city in North America. Is this something I can acquire here?
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @ShawnCholeva if you're looking for data per Census Place (closest thing we have to city), you're best bet is to use the ACS 1-year for a historical study
    we have these from 2011 - 2016
    Shawn Choleva
    @ShawnCholeva
    Or more how are they getting the historical population data for each place from 1990-2016
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @ShawnCholeva Census doesn't host data going that far back in our API, but you can hit up IPUMS for it! https://www.nhgis.org/
    Shawn Choleva
    @ShawnCholeva
    @loganpowell Awesome, thank you for the help!
