    @loganpowell Hi Logan, I'm new to the citysdk setup. I've been able to make some basic API calls to the ACS, but what I really need interactivity and visualizations. Something similar to the over65 sample code that we can embed into a website would work perfectly if you could customize certain things like age, sex, income, households, year, etc. City-data.com has some very nice visualizations based on city/county data. Are there any tools/tutorials available that can help produce something similar to the city-data.com or the census's over65 sample visualization maps, or just queries in general that could be customized to request data from the API based on user input? Thanks!

    @BreweryBusinessPlan I believe you're in the right place. There are a few examples in the repo: https://github.com/uscensusbureau/citysdk

    @loganpowell
    as for interactivity and visualizations, here's an example (use Chrome - a mapbox-gl-geocoder limitation): https://uscensusbureau.github.io/citysdk/examples/mapbox/with-mapbox-gl_geocoding_hover/index.html

    Hello, Now I am getting below error when it tries to fetch census data using [new censusModule(apikey) Error: https://api.census.gov/data/2014/acs5/geography.json 404 (Not Found). Please help us to fix this. Thank you
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @idealtraits-dev you now have to prequalify acs5 with acs, i.e.: api.census.gov/data/2014/acs/acs5/geography.json

    @idealtraits-dev
    Thank you Logan for your support . I have a query now. Now I changed this url in census.citysdk.js which I downloaded before and kept in our path. Now It is working good. But, Can I continue this way of accessing the census data , right ? [ That is , using existing jquery ] census = new CensusModule(apikey);
    census.apiRequest(apirequest, callback);
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @idealtraits-dev the call is not likely to change again in the near future (it should be stable for years). This is the new ontology. As for the citysdk you seem to be using version 1. There is a new version if you'd like to give it a try: https://github.com/uscensusbureau/citysdk

    @idealtraits-dev the server has been buggy for the past few weeks. We're undergoing some major back-end re-architecture

    [Vanessa, U.S. Census Bureau] Good Morning! I'm doing a project for school and needed to get some Census data to complete it. I'm new to API's and have a beginners knowledge of python. Can I access median household incomes for a set of zip-codes? And potentially any other information of the demographics in that neighborhood?

    [Othello, U.S. Census Bureau] Hi I am new to the Slack team but have been working with Census API with R for some time now. It look like CitySDK could add some value to some projects. However, after downloading JavaScript SE 13, which code editor is popular (NetBeans, Eclipse, or Intellij) or any other suggestions? Thanks

    Hi: I have been using the factfinder.census.gov api ((factfinder.census.gov/rest/addressSearchController/search) to get the county, county subdivision and school district for a given address. Factfinder is ending in March. How do I get this information in data.census.gov?
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @DcMasonjr_twitter I'm not sure you can do geocoding with data.census.gov, perhaps email cedsci.feedback@census.gov about this

    hi, new to room, relatively novice with APIs. Please bear with me. Can someone direct me to how to pull reference data from the API such as just a list of geographies and their IDs, and variable code+description, so I can navigate a little easier?
    Justin Larson
    @LiverLarson_twitter
    found the variables and names I was looking for (https://api.census.gov/data/2018/acs/acs1/profile/variables.json) still looking for a fips list with actual ids. Closest I found was the geography levels, but no the tuple ids themselves (https://api.census.gov/data/2018/acs/acs1/profile/geography.json)
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @LiverLarson_twitter do you need to target a specific geographic area or are you looking for all the geographic areas of a certain level?
    Justin Larson
    @LiverLarson_twitter
    @loganpowell : specific geographies at specific levels. So I need id's to, for example, filter to Washington and Oregon at state levels, but also need the id's to filter for Portland urban area and Seattle Urban areas as well. I know you can just run with [geography]:* to return everything.
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @LiverLarson_twitter there are a few ways you can go about getting the proper FIPS codes arguments to the for parameter:
    1. you can make a wildcard call for a parent geo, e.g., tracts in a FIPS you know, e.g., Alabama (state) like this:
      https://api.census.gov/data/2018/acs/acs5/profile?get=DP04_0001E&for=tract:*&in=state:01
      then use the tract FIPS from that result to make deeper calls
    2. if you need a specific geos FIPS for an address, you can use our geocoder:
      https://geocoding.geo.census.gov/geocoder/ (Caveat: this is a single server and shouldn't be counted on in production)
    3. if you can get the lat/lng coordinates for the specific location from a third-party (e.g., Open Street Maps/Google), you can use our Tigerweb Web Mapping Service. Here are some docs for that:
      https://github.com/uscensusbureau/citysdk/blob/master/v2/src/configs/geojson/geocoder-settings.md
    4. if you know JavaScript, we have an SDK: https://github.com/uscensusbureau/citysdk/

    @loganpowell thanks for pointers. Good stuff. I look forward to digging deeper. Lots of irons in the fire, so I'll have to come back to this probably in a few weeks. Also got in touch with Census data support people who pointed me to https://www2.census.gov/geo/docs/reference/codes/ and https://www.census.gov/library/reference/code-lists/ansi.html

    Hey generous people, I am not asking you to do the work for me, just hoping you can point me in the right direction: I am trying to get the racial distribution of every city where a police officer killed a citizen. I have all the cities and states in a table and have been struggling to get the population densities only. Any help?

    Hello everyone!
    I work on the https://datadashboard.fda.gov/ora/index.htm project. We are looking for a simple API to use our addresses zipcodes and get a response with geolocation data. Can anyone please tell me if the citysdk is a good place to start? Thank you!
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @mdutra555 you can see what the CitySDK can do for you here: https://uscensusbureau.github.io/citysdk/

    Hello everyone, just wondering what is the request limit using citySDK? for an api key?
    Logan Powell
    @loganpowell
    @acoroian without a key, you can make <500 requests per day
    with a key, it's relatively unlimited
    Adrian Coroian
    @acoroian
    GREAT.

    Hi I wanted to use USCensus to pull information for mayors, (age, race, name, and gender) for 20 most populated cities for the past 50 years. Is that in the scope of data in census.gov?
    I saw that another website used census.gov to pull data for most populated 30 cities, but it was only for one year

    Hi everyone! I have been working towards a community based research in our University. I'm searching for census data based on neighborhoods (especially Kansas City, MO - like Ivanhoe-Southeast (54), South Hyde Park(78), etc..). But, I couldn't find it anywhere. Could you please direct me? :eyes:
    Sam Butler
    @sbutler-gh

    Hey all, my name is Sam. I'm just getting started with #citysdk for some GIS mapping, and I'm encountering something unexpected.

    I'm trying to achieve the following functionality:

    When a user clicks on the mapbox Map, take the coordinates of the click, and return the census tract containing that click as well as a geojson polygon with the census tract boundaries.

    When I run the following code:

    census( { vintage: "2017", geoHierarchy: { tract: { lat: e.lngLat.lat, lng: e.lngLat.lng } } }, function(error, response) { console.log(response); } );

    The response successfully returns the census tract of the lat / long point.

    However, when I add geoResolution to the codeblock to get a geojson response:

    census( { vintage: "2017", geoHierarchy: { tract: { lat: e.lngLat.lat, lng: e.lngLat.lng } }, geoResolution: "500k" }, function(error, response) { console.log(response); } );

    The response is a multipolygon of every census tract in the entire state of the coordinate point.

    Can someone help me adjust my code so that the response is just a polygon featuring the census tract of the coordinate point?

    idealtraits-dev
    @idealtraits-dev
    Hello,
    We used the below code and received the census details properly. Now the response is nullcensus(
    {
    vintage: "2019",
    geoHierarchy: {
    county: {
    lat: $('#temp_lat').val(),
    lng: $('#temp_lng').val()
    }
    },
    sourcePath: [
    'acs',
    'acs5',
    ],
    values: [
    'B01003_001E','B19013_001E','B01002_001E'
    ],
    statsKey: apikey
    },
    function(error, response) {
    Please help us to resolve it

    in the meantime, if I'm correct in assuming that your error is caused by out geocoding services being buggy for 2019, the team is actively working on a fix.
