Logan @loganpowell, thank you for the attention. I’m a bit surprised by this exclusive preference from slack in 2020. Slack is well past its ground breaking days as a developers favorite. It has moved into the same lucrative business communications model where MS Teams is gaining market share. Why not give gitter serious consideration and avoid all that? For many of us focused on code development and data science, there is a good argument for a undistracted open-source solution in the git ecosystem.

Following the Census Bureau webinar, https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2020/demystifying-the-census-api.html?utm_campaign=20200722mscacs2ccstars&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery the list of variables in downloaded data is different from available variables . Does anyone understand this?

I have a dumb question, but can't seem to make sense of it in the ACS geographies. Where can I find ACS or other sourced/estimates for populations at a city boundary level? E.g. if I wanted to know how many people in Dallas, TX, and neighboring Rowlett, TX, where is the best API to pull?

Hi everyone, I'm just starting to look into these APIs, and was wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction. I mainly just want to get the population of a specific zip code or city. Which API should I be using for this? I saw the "Decennial Census (2010, 2000)", is that the right one to use? Or should I use the "Population Projections API"? Or something else?

Hi, is there a place where I can find all the variable names for ACS5? I found some, but they require me to click through their smaller ones. I want like a full list of everything.

Hi! I am using the API to collect data on occupations. It appears to me that the data always comes up blank. For example, I am looking for the variable "B24012_055" for the number of people in "service occupations." All other calls I have done have given me the data I am looking for, just not ones having to do with occupation counts.

I am curious to get some advice about how I would go about using an API from the census bureau to access a few different tables of ACS data. The goal is to get the unemployment numbers, median income, etc and have them on my system, potentially even automatically updating when new information is released or when a new geographic location is chosen. I know the table codes I need to access. Is this something that can be done with SQL and Microsoft Access?

Currently, I am looking to get data from Census is whose household income is between $20k to $99K. I got this API (https://api.census.gov/data/2019/acs/acsse?get=NAME,K201901_003E&for=county:*&in=state:*&key=your_Key) having the Variable K201901_003E which gives me filtered data but it is not working as expected. Anybody has idea or please advice me. If anything other API which I am missing please suggest me that as well.

Hi - I am looking at the zip code gazette file and I was wondering what the headers mean. specifically Index(['GEOID', 'ALAND', 'AWATER', 'ALAND_SQMI', 'AWATER_SQMI', 'INTPTLAT', 'INTPTLONG']). I downloaded the file from https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html

Hay Fox - I wanted to access a summary of the population statistics summarized in race white, Hispanic, black, and others at a census block level. Am very new for this forum and I would be glad if some one gives me a feedback on this area specially on APIs which would be used like this.

Hello - entering this API address - https://api.census.gov/data/2018/zbp?get=ESTAB,EMPSZES&for=zipcode:20002&NAICS2017=72 - returns the following:
    [["ESTAB","EMPSZES","NAICS2017","zip code"],
    ["250","001","72","20002"],
    ["71","210","72","20002"],
    ["36","220","72","20002"],
    ["68","230","72","20002"],
    ["56","241","72","20002"],
    ["17","242","72","20002"]]
Does this mean there are 250 establishments with 1-210 employees; 71 establishments with 210-220 employees; 36 establishments with 220 employees; etc. (and for NAICS 72 in Zip code 20002)

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew why I cannot access HST10 data after 2014 for some products
    halldjh65
    @halldjh65

I've just started working with Census APIs, and so far I'm loving what this can do to improve my work flow when working with American Community Survey Data.

For most of the data work I'm doing, my primary geographic level is the county subdivision. BUT, I also like to include data for each of the counties I'm working with, and the state level.

I know how to access EACH of those three levels, but I'm not sufficiently familiar with JSON programming protocols to know how (or whether) I can combine multiple geographic LEVELS in a single API data call?

I have been looking at the EXAMPLES found here [https://api.census.gov/data/2019/acs/acs5/examples.html], and don't see any that combine multiple geographic levels, but I strongly suspect this is something I should be able to do?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Hey there, does anyone have any advice on activating my Census Data API key? @halldjh65

I just received it via email, but when I click the Please click here to activate your key link I get an error:

You've attempted to validate an unknown key. If it has been more than 48 hours since you submitted your request for this API key then the request has been removed from the system. Please request a new key and activate it within 48 hours.

I see similar error reports from 2020 but I'm wondering if this is working now. Thanks!
