[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] trying to speed up a few things: set up minifed CSS w/o sourcemaps and dropped CSS from 500k to 100k :)
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] I do love easy wins :)
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] yes those are the best!

[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] @Vaibhav I'm playing around with angular-cache too.. the UI is sooo quick.
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] now I just need to make sure I'm clearing the cache at the right times and we can probably use this
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] that sounds amazing
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] i you'd have to clear cache for certain actions
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] guess*
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] Yea. Clear on updates.. clear on login/logout
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] that would be nice and efficient

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Francesco - i think so. Robbie was working on that this week - if it hasn't worked for you, let's log that as an issue :D

Angela don’t know if this is a bug but in general the user doesn’t like to receive an access denied at the end of a functionality he/she is seeing.

Question: Members should be allowed to publish post only as draft in the correct behavior?
Ushbot
@ushbot
Aug 13 2015 09:33
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] hmm, that's a great question...
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Yes, that should be the correct behaviour
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] only admin posts should get published
Francesco Bartoli

Aug 13 2015 09:35
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] rocking it Francesco. Thank you! keep them coming
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] is there a use case where an admin would want a quick crowdsourced map i.e members publishing a post without admin's approval?
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Yes @JulianaRotich - burger map is a great usecase for that :D
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] with V3 can admin have such a setting?
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] oh now that just made me hungry
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] :)
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] hehehe, i just made myself hungry with that too
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] let me investigate a little further on that setting existing
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] asante (thank you! )
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] It isn't in there yet - we should definitely file that as an important enhancement for launch
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] thanks for the heads up @JulianaRotich (allthethings) (yougotitdude)

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Yes @francesco - that should be the ideal. A member should be able to add posts(but not publish them) and can only view their own posts - and not other member's posts
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Thanks @robbie!!

[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] yay! created a post http://demo.platform.ushahidi.com/posts/11341
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] so,
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] wooop!!
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] shouldn't the 'create post' also save it?
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] finding that the second step to 'save'
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] may be additional friction?
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] yeah, that save button needs to be moved somewhere a little more visible
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] we've had a couple of guys here with us point out the same issue
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] you need to scroll up a little, its a small button the right hand bar

Aug 13 2015 10:00
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] yeah
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] want me to log that request or has it been logged?
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] ideally it would be good to have one action
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] create post should save
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] add it in tafadhali(please) :)
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] will do
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] sidenote: Someone is going ham on Italian translations - we're up from 24% to 33% in the last 30 minutes
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] ushahidi/platform#286
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] thank you Juls! :)
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] amazing re: translations!

[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] Quick question...
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] link to download if I wanna put V3 on my own server?
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] but we'll get this up on http://download.ushahidi.com once we're done with this testing release :)
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Transifex isn't giving me a realtime log of who's editing, but i can see the last person to add translations was Alessandra Lualdi - WOOP!
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] thank you!
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] wow, thank you Alessanda!

Aug 13 2015 13:29
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] via Heather on Skype "Your users need to make quick decisions during emergencies. Make it easier for them to review and scan".
[Jess Shorland, Ushahidi] Yes! Great feedback! In the launch we might want to talk about the data viz "activity view" that @Vaibhav is working on
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] +1 on that. what does 'review and scan' mean here. review the issue being reported, urgency, and recency?
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] this is exactly the type of case we want to solve for monitoring - for this to work you need to get a high level view of the incoming data, need a way to scrub the data via a viz, see the results of it in a list, which you can then use to get to the detail of the data
Ushbot
@ushbot
Aug 13 2015 13:35
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] right now the list and viz views are isolated and so this is hard - this is a case where we need the list view to include a visualisation to scrub/filter the list @Brandon @sophie
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] you can see more on viz needs and proposed roadmap here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/18-4bA0uSJbDU-PtbW5BzZThgRaUbd4JtcBxOFAUSaHU/edit
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] will make a note of this anecdote too

Aug 13 2015 13:43
[Jess Shorland, Ushahidi] I think saved searches is also a powerful tool for this -- getting realtime updated data on posts coming in with "urgent" "help" or whatever it is in the context. I think there's also power in the steps of a post. If a post is in "triage" step for instance, users should be able to quickly see how many need urgent attention and have a quick way to access/see/locate them. We've got filtering in there, but we should review and see if we can make that even easier.
[Juliana Rotich, Ushahidi] (thumbsup)
[Jess Shorland, Ushahidi] THIS IS SO GREAT I LOVE FEEDBACK

Aug 13 2015 14:52
[Brandon Rosage, Ushahidi] @Vaibhav Crowdmap's most recent UI broke this ground -- multiple view conventions visible together, reacting to one another. I say we go there with the Platform.
Ushbot
@ushbot
Aug 13 2015 14:59
[Vaibhav Bhawsar, Ushahidi] @Brandon +1 to that - that would open up interesting opportunities for bite sized visualisations. i think we can still hold the paradigm of consistent data dispaly across these multiple views: for example filters affect everything else in the view. can i see the crowdmap designs somewhere?

[Jess Shorland, Ushahidi] @all During this hectic/exciting week, it's going to be easy to get stuck in the weeds. Let's all try to keep our heads above water and stay focused on our users, our mission, and our team. Here's are what I think my/V3 priorities are for this week/next:
  1. translating user feedback into prioritized tasks, prioritizing/delegating major bugs, ensuring fixes are implemented (P0 bugs need to ALL be fixed before launch, P1 bugs as we see fit, P2-P3 bugs timelined). UX feedback too alongside design team.
  2. marketing/comms assets (talking points, press pitch, blog post, community emails, intro vids, documentation, risk mitigations)
  3. a single source of truth for metric tracking ready to go and shared/communicated with entire team
  4. keep team morale high
  5. post-launch debrief, things that worked, things that failed, lessons to implement for cloud launch planning.

  • Create a post from a member role and publish as "Draft"
  • Logon as Admin and "Publish as Member" that post then logout
  • Logon as Member and I continue to be able to edit the post then logout
  • Logon as Admin and change the policy to "Publish as Admin" then logout
  • Logon as the Member user who created the post I still continue to see the post and being able to edit it too
  • Logon as Members who didn't create the post they don't see it as expected
wondering if it is a behavior or a bug for the policy that applies to the creator ushahidi/platform#326

[Charlie Harding, Ushahidi] My standup: I'm doing an hour of user testing now, finishing web copy, working on SEO for new website, and building out a shareable deck on pricing to share with a few experts
[Henry Addo, Ushahidi] On my end: Porting over custom form work from previous implementation I did sometime back then wiring it up to the UI

[Sophie Shepherd, Ushahidi] @zackhalloran it's probably not this because i assume you're less of an idiot than me, but recently i spent 2 hours trying to figure out a bunch of errors and it turned out i was running gulp in two different places
[Zack Halloran, Ushahidi] Nope, but that's certainly something I would do. Some of the power packages are failing to install. I'm deploying from the master branch, so there may be an issue there. Is there a release or branch that I should use instead?

[Zack Halloran, Ushahidi] @here These are the errors I'm getting when I run npm install. I'm running this on a clean trusty64 box, I'm gonna poke around for a bit longer:

phantomjs@1.9.18 install /var/www/platform-client/node_modules/karma-phantomjs-launcher/node_modules/phantomjs
node install.js

platform-pattern-library@3.0.0-beta.18 postinstall /var/www/platform-client/node_modules/platform-pattern-library
(which bower && bower install) || exit 0

[David Losada, Ushahidi] mmm phantomjs... qt devel libs installed?
Ushbot
@ushbot
Aug 13 2015 21:00
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] hrm we might need to sort out dev dependencies properly.. you don't really need phantomjs just to run a build.. but there are other libs in dev deps you probably do :/
[Zack Halloran, Ushahidi] There's also the platform-patter-library error.
