@cmacdonell I think I’ve tracked down your auth issue to the fact that VM uses suPHP not mod php.

I’m trying to figure out a workaround. Or if you just have to swap versions of PHP entirely

[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] You can fork that to build your own CSS.
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] Then we pull the pattern library into the client via NPM https://github.com/ushahidi/platform-client/blob/master/package.json#L90
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] so if you swap that URL, and rerun `npm install` then `gulp` you'd get a client build with your own CSS

Sharing post types?
For example, a post type for requesting shelter as you showed. Is there (or will there be) someway to import/export them

not that I know of.. its been a while since I messed with open shift at all
