[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] @hapee is this issue happening while you run bin/update?
Hapee
@hapee
Sep 16 2015 11:46
yes absolutely
[InvalidArgumentException]
There was a problem connecting to the database: SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Acce
ss denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
and the .env file I use does not use the root user

[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] if .env is in your root directory, try running bin/update from there
Hapee
@hapee
Sep 16 2015 11:52
meaning if I would put the .env file in the bin/update directory it would work as well
but it does not, it says the same
but point is too, I do what is said in the documentation and so other might face this problem too

[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] where is your .env now when you run bin/update?
Ushbot
@ushbot
Sep 16 2015 12:09
[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] @hapee Could you try to leave .env in the base directory and run bin/update from there?
Hapee
@hapee
Sep 16 2015 12:14
that default behavior and that is what I started with
Ushbot
@ushbot
Sep 16 2015 12:33
[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] ok. I managed to run bin/update successfully using an .env in the base directory and phinx migrations completed so I am can't reproduce that issue but I am still looking into it.
Hapee
@hapee
Sep 16 2015 12:34
so how is your .env called? and base is the /platform directory?
Ushbot
@ushbot
Sep 16 2015 12:41
[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] yes base is /platform and it's just called .env
[Jason Mule, Ushahidi] for testing I used the sample in the install docs
Hapee
@hapee
Sep 16 2015 12:46
ok that was it than, I called it everything except .env
so now I ran it and working
thanks

On two installs I've done I found that including the trailing slash on BACKEND_URL in .env actually breaks the site ("Oops, something went wrong"). Have others seen this?

[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] @cmacdonell you're probably right that it breaks it. Should be easy enough for us to strip trailing slashes though
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] I'll add a bug
[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] #705
[Ush Bot, Ushahidi] Issue 705: Strip trailing slash on BACKEND_URL ushahidi/platform#705

Should we tweak the install docs to mention that?
More precisely, the README on platform-client is ok, but docs.ushahidi.com has a trailing slash on the Linux instructions. There are some other variances too, the platform-client README mentions "NODE_SERVER=true" as part of .env

[Robbie Mackay, Ushahidi] Yup. There definitely shouldn't be a trailing slash in the docs
