Hello all: By now, some of you might have been aware about the floods in various coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, India, including Chennai, Cuddalore, and other numerous other towns & villages. More than 3 million are said to be affected, with the death toll currently at 280.se US(indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/live-chennai-hit-by-heaviest-rains-in-a-century-normal-life-thrown-out-of-gear/)
A bunch of us are trying to deploy and customize USHAHIDI to coordinate relief work. In the past 48 hours, more than 35 emergency numbers have popped up, so people are already confused on whom to call. So we would like to use USHAHIDI so that affected people (or their friends) can send a SMS to a toll-free number in a specified format (e.g., <Name> <Location> <No. of victims> <Brief Problem Description>), which will then be automatically consolidated and organized in the platform, therefore allowing the centralized dispatch operators to send the available help (e.g., medical/EMT, police, fire, food supplies, sanitation, electricians, plumbers). We are also in discussion with telecom providers to get a single toll-free SMS number.
We did go through the documentation and videos from the USHAHIDI community. We have a local deployment setup, prototyping it, and a set of volunteer developers, analysts, and on-the-ground help. But we would need some guidance and help on the USHAHIDI modules and plug-ins so that we can move quicker. If any of you have some free time and can join our team, that will be really great and highly appreciated. If you can answer a few queries that our Dev team has, that will also be great. Please let me know. Thanks a lot!
Are you deploying on yourself? We have been trying to do it on our machine but weren't successful. At least at Linux there are numerous of gotchas in installation and it didn't even work in the end (405, problem with authentication when trying to login as admin:admin).
We are currently working on preprocessing of posts coming from SMS/Mail, so if they are structure, we might help you to make it automatic, but we haven't finished so far.
Is there any developer who would be able to explain us the client part of platform? We can't understand the architecture of views here.
