Hi, sorry i was trying the new version of ushahidi 3.0, i previously worked with ushahidi 2 and it worked really well. I noticed some missing features in the 3rd version, like photographs in the reports, since im evaluating this new version for a project ¿is there a plan to include photograph in the report?. That is the first question. Also i would like to know if there is a release date for the android and Ios App. ¿Are these apps buildable and usable in the current state in the git master branch?

[David Losada, Ushahidi] unfortunately there’s no release date planned for mobile right now

No i was trying the version provided in ushahidi.com.....
so to get the latest version i have to install the source code from github, i thought they were the same version.

[David Losada, Ushahidi] it’s the same version. you need to edit the survey in your settings and make sure you add at least one field for photos

Another question , for a new project that is going to go on for more than a year, do you recommend using version 2 or 3. I mean because version 2 is old and mostly worrying about php deprecation and such.
?
I think android app is not that necessary since it works very well in the mobile browser, version 3.

[David Losada, Ushahidi] we always recommend version 3 now , 2 is unsupported and unmaintained
[David Losada, Ushahidi] yea the browser app is much improved for mobile, we put effort to that :)

[David Losada, Ushahidi] in the near future we will make available independent views for certain functions (map, submission) , that may help you making a more customisable still browser-based mobile app
[David Losada, Ushahidi] yes you may do that in the configuration of the twitter datasource

Ok. Thank you very much, i think i will go with version 3. i will continue to explore it . I was just a little bit confused about the docs, and that, since there is a lot of legacy stuff
But it is great to see that this gitter chat is so active

[David Losada, Ushahidi] we do our best, you may not be so lucky on weekends :)
[David Losada, Ushahidi] which docs are you using?
[David Losada, Ushahidi] we’ve got cleanup pending to do
[David Losada, Ushahidi] this is the official source for docs: https://www.ushahidi.com/support

I really dont know, here and there, there are old versions of the docs from 3.0 in another page. https://wiki.ushahidi.com
Also the forums, but both of them seemed pretty death
Im glad, i think the activity has just moved here. If everything goes right with the deployment i plan. You will be seeing me around here. Thanks for the suggestions and clarifications.
Other question, about the hosted ushahidi, you said it was the same as the git one
so.... it keeps somewaht in sync with the master git branch?
Im just asking this to evaluate between hosted ushahidi vs self hosted...
in terms of manteinance of course. What is your suggestion in this aspect?

[David Losada, Ushahidi] we tend to deploy our hosted version when we do major releases or bugfixes
[David Losada, Ushahidi] so yea, mostly in sync
[David Losada, Ushahidi] if you are not planning to customise your deployment, and you don’t want the hassle of maintaining the service, I would suggest hosted ushahidi
[David Losada, Ushahidi] we take pretty good care of it

Ushbot
@ushbot
Sep 06 2016 05:09
[David Losada, Ushahidi] import / export ? yea those are csv based
[David Losada, Ushahidi] we do keep backups of the database ourselves
hydrosIII
@hydrosIII
Sep 06 2016 05:15
So if i o with the hosted option, there is no way i can download the entire database in sql format?
Ushbot
@ushbot
Sep 06 2016 05:24
[David Losada, Ushahidi] no, sorry to say currently there is no way of doing that
hydrosIII

You should consider doing such thing as letting people downlod the db. Both for portability, backups, and to have a copy of sensitive data. Thanks for the info.

[David Losada, Ushahidi] yea I see how that would be handy. I’m going to pass that on as a feature request to the product people. Thanks for the contribution!
