Hi all. A few days I asked about displaying Map posts in differing colours, depending on their Verification status. Does anybody have any idea how this could be achieved?
Otherwise is there any other support resource I could use to find this out? Thanks in advance

I've just noticed that the Ushahidi pricing plans have completely changed. I subscribed to the "surveyor" plan some weeks ago for my deployment at mozeleicoes.ushahidi.io. I'm hoping Map post colour variation isn't a feature that used to be with the platform, but has been dropped (from the platform or from my subscription level).

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Hi Danryu!

Please pardon our delayed response. So, one of the things that changed from v2 to v3 is the association of posts and colors on the map based on category. Now, the posts you see on the map are defined per survey, meaning you have to set the survey color on configuration for your posts to appear that way. We don’t assign colors to categories unfortunately

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] We also don’t automatically have verification status by default. As a workaround you can set that up as a category

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Also, your surveyor plan should not be affected negatively. You were upgraded to the Ushahidi basic plan at the same current rate. Please see this blog post for details

https://www.ushahidi.com/blog/2018/09/24/ushahidi-maintenance-new-pricing-plan-information-for-current-deployers

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] I’d also highly advise you to have a look at our comprehensive support documentation to help guide you on how to use v3 https://Ushahidi.com/support
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] I hope this is helpful

Thanks Angela for your response. Indeed, I have arranged the Surveys with their individual colours, and can do the workaround for Verification with custom Categories, but from what you are saying it is not possible to differentiate visually between Verified and Unverified (apart from creating a separate Survey for each of those, which doesn't seem sensible.)
I have been going through the support docs at https://ushahidi.com/support but have been struggling with finding information on this.
Anyway I think you have addressed this, I will do the workarounds as I can.
One other question: the iOS/Android app solution - has this changed since 4 years ago?

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Yes, precisely. While using categories there’s no way to visually represent them on the map unfortunately :(.
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Re: the iOS and Android app, the latest versions should be available on the App Store and are compatible with this version of Ushahidi. It’s regularly updated

There was a standalone app (I think) produced for the Txeka project (Mozambique). Was this a special "personalized" app just for Txeka at this time? Because at the moment I can only find the generic iOS/Android app, to which it is possible to add one's deployment, but without any branding or personalization as far as I can tell.

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] Aaaaah, yes, that one was done in 2014 on version 2, and was specialized for the Txeka project. If you’re looking for branding or personalization I can connect you with our biz dev team to look into?
[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] The generic apps all have Ushahidi basic branding

Re the app branding/personalization: thanks for confirming that 2014 version. Regarding using that - is that still a viability or would that need a new contract? I'm wondering what the options are. My timescales are really tight now, so it's really only possible if I can re-use the old app or take something off the shelf. If the generic app is much further developed in terms of features/capabilities then I will just go with that.
Thanks again for your replies.

[Angela Oduor Lungati, Ushahidi] No problem at all. This would be a new engagement all together. Unfortunately the old app would not be compatible with this new version of Ushahidi.

You can definitely try out the generic app and have a look and let me know?

[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] Rosfox_carter is your email datasource configured correctly?
[rosfox_carter] Ush yes, with SSL for incoming mails
[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] - do you see anything in the logs for platform? (/application/logs in v3)

[rosfox_carter] let me check

[rosfox_carter] Ush there is a folder 2018
[rosfox_carter] in this folder there is a folder named 10
[rosfox_carter] in this folder there are php files
[rosfox_carter] This is one of those files
[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] looks like there are problems accessing the db. Is your deployment working, at all?
Ushbot
@ushbot
Oct 08 2018 16:07
[rosfox_carter] Yes the deployment works, but sometimes i have messages telling @localhost can't access the db with password no
[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] Are the db failures only when running cli commands?
what happens if you run ./bin/ushahidi dataprovider ?

[rosfox_carter] when i run php bin/ushahidi dataprovider i got new lines in 08.php in log folder
[rosfox_carter] 2018-10-08 16:21:45 --- CRITICAL: Database_Exception [ 2 ]: mysqli::__construct(): (HY000/1045): Access denied for user ''@'localhost' (using password: NO) ~ APPPATH\classes\Database\MySQLi.php [ 59 ] in C:\Server\data\htdocs\ressourcedefenders\astil\platform\application\classes\Database\MySQLi.php:393

[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] ok , and when you call the API directly, it works ?
That’s strange. I wonder if it’s something to do with the .ENV file not being picked up in some contexts in a windows server

[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] @rosfox_carter also , can you specify :

  • web server
  • php version
  • is php fpm or mod_php
  • is the PHP version in the cli the same as the one in the web (ie php -v version should be the same as the one that appears if you add a phpinfo and see it in the web)

Apologies if you mentioned it already, this issue might be a good candidate for opening a ticket in github with all the details and send it to us here so it’s easier to track and hopefully help out others who might run into the same issue later.

Hi, I want to contribute to the front end application, do I have to install the API platform to develop localy ?

[Romina Suarez, Ushahidi] @seb1080_gitlab thanks for getting in touch. Right now, you should be able to point to a hosted deployment and use it from the OSS client to avoid setting up the API from the first moment and contribute to client (example .env setting that I just tried: `BACKEND_URL=https://rominacsvsms.api.ushahidi.io/` but using your deploymentname instead of rominacsvsms ). The main problem is that free accounts are “demo only” so they are limited to 30 days or 25 posts, and you might run into CORS issues at some point.

We are starting to think of API playground alternatives to make this easier as part of our effort to improve the OSS experience in the platform (just added a ticket to track/discuss with staff and community members , it’s still in brainstorming stages ushahidi/platform#3317 )
