Data loss between updates

  • Will settings be lost?
  • Will scripts be lost?
  • Will they be lost when restarting Chrome or disable and reenable the add-on?
Alexey
@AL3x3y0
Hi, scripts is not lost, lost most general settings like checkboxes on "autoupdate", "notify me about scripts update" etc. They lost only when extencion get update from chrome store, without chrome restarting
Gerald
@gera2ld
@AL3x3y0 I see, but still cannot reproduce it. Can you help me with debugging?
Gerald
@gera2ld
  1. Load v2.7.2 in dev mode, and change some settings.
  2. Replace the folder with v2.8.2, then reload, see if settings persist.
Alexey
@AL3x3y0
  1. I installed 2.7.2
  2. Change some settings
  3. Replace 2.7.2 with 2.8.2 files
  4. Restart Chrome
  5. Settings is reseted (checkboxes etc)

Only checkboxes is reseting, installed scripts/blacklist is stay.

Also, I don't noticed 2.8.3, and settings doesn't reseted when I got updated from 2.8.2 to 2.8.3.

Gerald
@gera2ld
Since blacklist persists, I don't think the data is really lost, maybe a bug when initializing the checkboxes. I'll look into this, thanks.

Should the current master load in Firefox? After building and zipping it, it won't load on nightly. There's a warning in the browser console complaining it didn't find an id; does Firefox need different info in the manifest?
Gerald
@gera2ld
It can be loaded on Firefox nightly in development mode.
Fyren
@Fyren
I don't want to do it that way since it won't stay loaded through browser restarts.

Hi! I seem to be having an issue and I don't know where to start from. I've installed a script and now don't want it anymore, but it doesn't unload. It's a style script for Facebook, which creates a new child called 'style' in the 'head' tag. I've tried removing the script, violentmonkey, clearing my cache and cookies, but to no avail. It'd just come back after a refresh.

hey all, i've got two hopefully quick questions
1) since the grease monkey docs site appears to be down (https://wiki.greasespot.net) is there an alternative way to look up reference info (sides SO posts)
2) is there a way to reload a script without having to refresh the page? ie during dev how can you just refresh script to see updated logic?

@gera2ld if you watch this, any guess when a new version build is coming? I see you recently fixed an issue I had.

Sorry for the late response. v2.12.1 is published now.

hoidiho - where is the official spec for the meta block of user scripts?

Is it this or is there something more official: https://violentmonkey.github.io/api/metadata-block/

Gerald
@gera2ld
https://violentmonkey.github.io/api/metadata-block/ is the official document for Violentmonkey. Each script manager (GM, TM, VM, etc) has its own documentation and there might be small differences.

Hello.
Can you create a new logo for the extension?
It seems to me that a monkey with red eyes is not the best option.
I say this without negativity. Just most likely it scares away people who want to install the extension.
I propose not to take the monkey into the idea of a new logo.
Thank you for understanding.

hi hi violentmonkey
Gerald
@gera2ld
@illuminatibit Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm not good at designing and that's why we had that logo. So I guess I'll leave it as it is for now until someone could help or I get some inspiration someday.

@psychohippo
Hey how do I backup or migrate scripts?
Gerald
@gera2ld
@psychohippo There is an export button in settings. You can get all yours scripts as a .zip file.

Hi, so my chrome just bugged out to the point I had to fresh install it, and I forgot to save my user scripts, is there a way to get them back or are they lost for good?

@gera2ld I like the logo, it's funny! 🤭 Just reading its description “a monkey with red eyes” is already fun.
